New Itza

The largest city known to the world within Tocoatlalli, Izta was built in the middle of the lake using four islands to create one solid artificial island and endow this island with a natural fortification. A canal connects the city's lake to the ocean, allowing smaller ships to move in and out of the city. The city is made up of several smaller temples with one large temple at the center to support their multiple gods.

Structure

The Yuan-Ti of Itza follow a caste system. The highest are the nobles chosen by the serpentine gods such as the World Serpent. The next rank is the clergy and the priests that serve the nobility. Following that is the warrior rank, as the Yuan-Ti value strong examples of their race. Beneath them are the crafters followed by the serfs, slaves, and gatherers. This is a mobile caste system and any citizen can move up or down in rank if valiant efforts and sacrifices are made.

Culture

The world perceives the Yuan-Ti of Itza as scary and untrustworthy savages. Outsiders who have had the displeasure of meeting the Yuan-Ti found them abrasive and underhanded. Traders rarely commute to the Itza as the profit margins do not support the risks.

The truth is that the Yuan-Ti are arrogant. The culture highly values the perfection of the race. While "perfect" varies from person to person, those that are beautiful, strong, and smart are venerated in the community. In pursuit of this perfection, many Yuan-ti have achieved different forms, all containing various snake-like transformations.   The culture does not value protecting the weak and the foolish. Honesty is not as valued as guile or cunning. Men and women are valued equally as they have the ability to switch gender through ritual. The society is notoriously ableist and does not provide any kind of services for the unwanted. Value in society is directly proportional to giving more than you take.

Public Agenda

To the worldwide public, the Yuan-Ti have no public agenda. Maybe theorists speculate that they will eventually emerge from the jungles to take over the world, starting with the neighboring elven country. Yuan-Ti publicly deny and mock talks of world domination.

Within the community, the public agenda is to continue pursuing perfection of the race and conquer the Tocoatlalli jungles and their people. From the highest nobility to the lowest gatherer, world domination must be a far flung ambition until the jungles can be tamed.
