Capture checks

Pokemon will be captured using Capture Crystals (CCs).   Throwing a Capture Crystal is a Maneuver.  

Difficulty

The pokemon's level tier will determine difficulty.
  • Level 1: d
  • Levels 2-3: dd
  • Levels 4-5: ddd
  • Levels: 6-7: dddd
  • Levels 8-9: ddddd
  • Level 10: Impossible, requires spending one story point and then making a ddddd Difficulty check  

    Ability pool

      The type of Capture Crystal used will determine the positive dice rolled on the check.  
  • A Standard Capture Crystal will have dd
  • A Great Capture Crystal will have ddd  
    Some types of CC's will add b or b based on the type of pokemon being captured. These bonuses do not stack.  
  • A Net Capture Crystal will grant b when capturing Bug-, Flying- or Water-type pokemon.  

    Capture check modfiers

     

    POKEMON HEALTH

  • A pokémon with wounds below 20% of its threshold will upgrade the difficulty once. d -> c
  • A pokemon with wounds above 70% of its threshold will upgrade the ability pool once. d -> c
  • A pokemon with wounds above 90% of its threshold will upgrade the ability pool twice.  

    EVOLUTIONARY STAGE

    The number of evolutionary stages a pokemon has left can affect the capture check.  
  • Pokemon has 2 Evolutions left: Upgrade the check once.
  • Pokemon has 1 Evolution left: No changes
  • Pokemon has no Evolutions left: Upgrade the difficulty once.  

    STATUS EFFECTS

    Any negative status effect inflicted upon the pokemon will add b to the capture check. Multiple b can be granted, one for each unique Status Effect.  

    Putting it All together

     

    Scenario 1

    A pokemon is Level 3, has 1 Evolution left, has 2 wounds, and a Wound Threshold of 15. The Knight throws a Standard Capture Crystal.
  • Level: dd
  • Evolution: no change
  • Wounds: 2/15 = 13%: Upgrade d to c
  • Standard Capture Crystal: dd  
    The final pool would be dddc  

    Scenario 2

    A pokemon is Level 4, has no evolutions left, has 13 wounds, a Wound Threshold of 15, and is suffering from Confusion. The Knight throws a Great Capture Crystal.
  • Level: ddd
  • Evolution: Upgrade d to c
  • Wounds: 13/15 = 86%: Upgrade d to c
  • Status Effects: b
  • Great Capture Crystal: ddd  
    The final pool would be ddcbddc
