Aetherial
The lost souls that had been wandering for so long in the Aether, trying to escape through the Aetherveil, that they corrupted. As they are no longer souls by definition they are denied rest and crave existence in any form. This craving is most commonly satisfied through contact with mortals and dealings with them, bodies that house an Aetherial are broadly referred to as Aether - possessed, the most vile type of Shunned cursed, there are more defined classifications though.
They are commonly seen as menaces and abominations, in many cases exterminated on sight. The power and intelligence of Aetherials differ immensely, from collective minds fused together with cunning intellect to mindless screaming husks. How much sanity is left in an Aetherial is based on how old it is, how powerful and knowledgeable it was and its mental fortitude. As most Aether - possessed are created though bartering and dealings the mindless types are extremely rare, suppressed by stronger ones who wish not for their potential victims to be spooked.
While it is common knowledge that its dangerous to interact with Aetherials, it is sadly also common knowledge that their promises are not empty ones and they prefer the emotionally unstable when trying to gain access to a body. A man in dire need of help might hear a voice in his head promising help in exchange for entry and if accepted the host will be provided with guidance and potentially more. The extend of the help a Aetherial can provide is up to the individual, some can just give counsel others may provide specific knowledge or even directly bestow magical gift, bodily empowerment or healing is also not unheard of. On top of that there are some stories of successful individual that retained their sanity and control by overpowering the will of the Aetherial. the ruling class would dearly wish such rumors and story was not circulating, but it is probably spread by the Aether - possessed themselves.
While they are countless Aetherials around they are bound to the Astral and the Aether and cannot influence the material plane or any other plane for that matter.
