The Goliath Tribes

Natives to the Range

For as long as any mortal remembers, Goliaths have inhabited the Selvarian Range. Born in the image of honor and strength, the goliath's banded together to endure the hardships brought about from the mountainous terrain they call home. Goliaths from the Range believe in various teachings from different gods, and these goliaths eventually formed various tribes based around those teachings. Each tribe had their own ways of life, but always sought to understand how each different tribe lived, in order to ensure no misunderstandings between them. Due to that decision, very little conflict has occured between the tribes, which allows them to focus on bettering their lives in the mountains. Due to their location, they don't get many outside visitors, aside from the dwarves living to their south and the occasional pilgrim seeking to gain their knowledge and understanding of the gods they worship.

Religious to their Core

The goliaths of the range each dedicate their lives to the teachings of a god, usually based on which tribe they are born into. Though they show extreme devotion to these teachings, they worship the gods quite differently from most other civilizations. Where others may pray and build temples to their gods, the goliaths prefer to engage in various rituals ranging from ritualistic combat and duels to tribal chants and various offerings. To outsiders these actions may seem barbaric and crude, but to those who have observed them, there is no denying the outcome. Travelers have stated that during these rituals, they feel the pressance of the gods and some have even witnessed their blessings manifest in various boons, ranging from food appearing from nothing to harsh weather being calmed. Thankfully, most simply believe these to be either coincidental or fabricated stories, as the increase in visitors would disrupt the goliaths peaceful way of life as well as lead to the unnecessary deaths due to the harsh route they would have to take.

Approximate Population

The approximate population of each tribe is around 100 to 120 goliaths, totalling to around 500 to 600 total. Each tribe has anywhere from 3 to 10 visitors at a given time, though there rarely are more than 5 at a given time. Although the majority of permanent residents are goliaths, there are a few dwarves and dragonborn among them.

The Mountain Life

The Selvarian Range has a multitude of horrid beasts that live both on the surface and underground. These beasts bring a large degree of challange to those who seek to live in the range, but also give quite a reward from being hunted. Most of the creatures found are edible and can be considered a delicacy in far off nations and many of the material harvested from them can be used in all manner of craftswork.
