Toppaggog Silk

Toppaggog silk, also known as frog-weave silk or marsh silk, is a type of silk woven from a material that comes from a species of worm living only in the Toppaggog jungle in south eastern Aegrora. The silk is very strong and soft, making an excellent material for rope, thread, nets and clothing. It is highly valued and is the only reliable source of silk in the eastern hemisphere, with others being of lower quality and much more difficult to harvest in usable quantities. Still, the production of the silk is nowhere near the demand for it and so it remains the most important (arguably the only important) export from the jungle.   Frequently called Frog-silk, as it was a village of Grippli who originally devised the method of weaving the silk into usable thread, rope and cloth. They have shared the method with other residents of the jungle, and different villages have since devised methods of dying and weaving the material for a wide range of practical and fashionable purposes. More recently, hybrid materials made by interweaving this silk with giant spider silks has allowed it to be adapted to even more applications, including the sails and hulls of some ships.   Still, the three most common applications currently are in the highest quality clothing, ropes and nets. The clothing is considered a mark of wealth anywhere that it can be worn practically (it is not a particularly warm material), and is often dyed with brilliant colors, intricate patterns, or both. The rope is used for heavy duty or luxury applications, or in situations where money is less of a concern than effectiveness or weight. The net is used by well organized fishing and shipping operations that can afford it, and depending on the size, they are as much of an investment as a new ship or warehouse.
