City of Sitnalta Map
The underwater city of Sitnalta.
Few cities beneath the ocean of Potestatem are widely known. Sitnalta the capital of 'Center Sea's' is the contested metropolis of many ocean fairing species. It's origin is unknown as it has lasted several era's beyond the historical texts.

Geography, Architecture, and Travel

The sea floor around Sitnalta is a huge multipeak sub aquatic mountain range with a half dozen main peaks. The highest of which, Mt sitnalta, houses the capital structures that are heavily protected. The other peaks and valleys house the rest of the cities factions and people. Most structures are made from ancient corals, carved from stone, volcanic rock, or huge collections of shell and bone that make flowing arcs and long buildings.   Due to the wet nature of the city, huge towers that would be impossible on land stretch dozens of floors from the sea floor upward. The highest of which create faint green glows seen from the surface. Huge shafts of airated water allow careful descents into the city. Otherwise one must pay for passage one the hyper expensive subaquatic spelljammers or more dangerous submarines created with sea elf and water genasi magics.   Large farms of food stretch over the cities empty water space, floating about as they grow anything from common sea weed to more exotic fruits.

Major Factions

Many of the more populace sea fairing races have a claim on the cities ruling class and control dating back many human lifetimes.
Sea Elves
Descended from their land based ansectors, sea elves are drawn to powerful magic and long term research. Due to their lifespan they have taken up many of the powerful and noble positions in the city and have even been able to become the largest reciever of taxes on owned land and the like. A proud and noble race that has benefitted from their lifespans a hundrefold over the other races.
Water Genasi
Tuned to the sea as it is part of themselves and their marid anscetors the Genasi have long taken on a magic culture focused on observing the nature of the sea's ways. Working as cultivatists and powerful mages throughout the city the Genasi are one of the few races mostly outside the power struggle for Sitnalta.
Triton
The proud noble race has taken ahold of the militarized authority in the city. Depending on who you ask they are described as tyrannical generals to common city guard and police. They have long been at least tolerated due to their deep knowledge of water planes elementals and deep sea beasts that they deftly keep away. Most can draw their lineage all the way back to the second era where many traveled from the elemental plane of water to the prime material plane.
Simic Hybrids
A recent addition to the factions. After the third era the Simics began to show in number. Thought to be the result of Destroyer Breath that didn't truly drive them insane the Simics are stepped on by many others. Their power and overwhelming intimidating and alien appearce often draws ire and fear. As per their nature they have long adapted to the enviroment and have become powerful new weavers of the flesh. Some elves, humans, triton and the like have joined their ranks through recent breakthroughs in the simic nature of multi species traits.   Some fight the stigmas thrust upon them by culture, while others embrace it and have become lords of the criminal underground of the city.
Locathah and Grung
Living near the upper reaches of the city and even on ships that circle the region the Locatha and Grung are still most often slaves. Controlled by larger more powerful races the often classfied as dopy creatures of Locathah and Grung are tred upon even more than the more intimidating Simic. A rumor circles that the Locathah have located an odd portal to the plain of water and will soon take back the sea for themselves, though this rumor is almost always circling throughout history. One day, it may come true.

Demographics

The population percents of Sitnalta have always been a longstanding reflection of the greater Potestatem sea's population ratios. They are often used to sea how the races quanties match up over time theoretically.
