Session 34: Pig-Pocketing a Plasmoid
General Summary
As Leshui led the Coast Guard to Acropolis Amanita, SNTR-1 noticed there was someone or something surreptitiously following them. A precautionary ambush was laid (and unfortunately it was revealed that Pearl of Power is only a mundane pig), but it turned out to merely be Orfloxen, a mute plasmoid from Agarica who apparently acts as the civil engineer and architect of the village. He "disarmed", sucking his pistol and spear into his amorphous body, and plead for them to follow him somewhere. They figured they might as well help him out. After all, he's just a lil guy, and Leshui seemed to trust him.
They took a detour of about an hour, descending into a darker and more grotto-like section of the Domain. Where in the rest of the realm psychic energies of all types pulse through the walls, here only a constant pulse of dark blue energy flowed out of the area they were entering. Inside a large, sloped cell with a pool of water at the corner, Orfloxen waded into the water and encouraged the others to join. Emelia and Leshui got in, and soon Emelia was certain that being in the dank, slimy water was the best idea. Leshui eventually got weirded out and exited the water. Emelia got punched in the gut and left her feeling a little sick; Leaf lassoed and pulled her out of the water, but Emelia immediately burnt the rope off of her, wrenching herself out of her compulsion. Unfortunately, Leaf then fell under the powers of whatever wanted them in the water, but at this point it was clear something bad was compelling them.
SNTR-1 knocked Leaf out of his charmed state, and all watched with dread as something began to rise from the shallows: a mass of slimy mycotic tendrils and roots trailing from a bulbous head with three eyes spaced vertically above a gaping maw, dripping strands of slimy, mucousal liquid. Despite its corrupted appearance, SNTR-1 immediately recognized what this creature once must have been: an aboleth, malevolent and immortal keepers of ancient knowledge. He knew it must have charmed Orfloxen with its psychic powers. It reached into the minds of all, attempting to convince them it could give them their deepest desires.
An epic fight ensued -- Leaf conjured a storm of lightning to constantly strike the slow-moving creature, happily ending Orfloxen's charmed state so he could be absolutely ineffectual for the fight (but at least they didn't have to kill him!). Emelia summoned a great spirit of a storm dragon which slashed, clawed, and breathed more lightning at the aberration (which was technically a plant). The aboleth breathed out a cloud of spores that obscured everyone's vision and allowed the creature one more chance at charming the party, which ultimately failed.DPS-#1 SNTR-1 and all his buddies pushed the aboleth into a corner where it inevitably died, though not before making one last attempt to save itself: surely they would want the information it had about how to defeat the Mother of Soil?
We all know the answer to that question, of course. The creature sank lifelessly into the water, whatever knowledge it held dying with it. Leaf and SNTR-1 cured Emelia's disease seconds before she was effectively permanently afflicted with a dependence on water, and were even able to help Orfloxen, who had become an obligate water-breather. They sent him back to Agarica so they could continue, but not before Emelia and Pearl of Power pulled one of the most amazing heists yet... pig-pocketing Orfloxen's gun from inside his own body.
Oh, and Calloway was there, too. ;)
