Session 27: Since U Been Gone
General Summary
As SNTR-1 and Calloway catch up to Leaf, Emelia, and Khalog at Mili-bohn's hut, they notice something concerning... Astral Remnants are absolutely all over the place. Seems like a bad sign.
Leaf's grandma Mili-bohn sends the group to bed, promising to awaken Emelia in the morning. Before she does, she gives the group a magical candle attuned to Kraa'thom to help them. Will they use it to boost their stats or save all ten charges for a well-placed Gate? Only time will tell.
The following morning, Mili-bohn arrives with some concoction of Kren-sap and uses it as smelling salts to jolt Emelia awake. Emelia recounts her version of events after being disappointed to learn that the entire experience in the Domain of Decay was not, in fact, a dream:
She found herself face-to-face with her pen pal, a Chelu-kaan woman (hereafter, PenPal) with auburn hair and green eyes who appeared... stressed out, let's say. She wrote a lengthy response to Emelia's previous message (TLDR: PenPal has to refer to Ylmyo-Aldon by proper names because of the pact she made; she had never been to Agarica but was aware the residents were there mostly accidentally and had a deal of their own with the Matriarch; Dominhall was a part of the deal she and her partner made with Ylmyo-Aldon, to be used as a conduit of some kind; she assumes Jaysennia replaced Dom and suggests offering a different replacment). Emelia picked up the quill once the woman finished writing and wrote a response, prompting the woman to realize that Emelia was actually right in front of her.
After a brief moment of shock, PenPal regained as much composure as she could while in a nightgown and they conversed face to face. She wouldn't say who she was, but Emelia was pretty sure that her partner was the Baron. They talked about the pact PenPal and her partner made with Ylmyo-Aldon, namely that:
The rest of the Coast Guard agreed that PenPal looked and sounded like Baroness Altunka Iverfort, the Baron's wife. They felt confirmed in their suspicion that the Baron (who may be a warlock) was directly responible for what was happening in town. Speaking of that, they headed to Captain Sultana's office for a debrief. They told him pretty much everything, including their strong suspicions about the Baron becauseLeaf is a narc Leaf trusts Captain Sultana and believed he was more loyal to the town than to the Baron. The only thing kept from Sultana was the presumed identity of PenPal. Sultana did not immediately arrest the group for treason, but said he would put Gherd on surveillance of the Baron, and suggested they keep this information secret for now. He is concerned that if the Barony falls, Port Shimmerly will not survive, reaffirming the delicate nature of their situation.
As for what's been going on in the town, Sultana tells the Coast Guard: - Six days have passed (making the time in the Domain twice as fast as the Material Plane)The town & Barony have become unstable, and both tourists and residents have been fleeing
The Arts district is completely overrun, The Universalist Temple is on shaky ground (literally), and The Lodge & Temple of Kraa'thom are clear only because of great resources invested in keeping them as such
The Chelu-kaan have enacted a quarantine and have been performing controlled burns and cavern collapses in attempts to stop the spread
The Gutters have made a community at the edges of Lient'roc, but are being threatened by...
An ancient and powerful being of the forest has become bold and dangerous, commanding a newly-formed legion of undead forest creatures and threatening the town, and they need to help the Guard fix the problem tonight
Finally, he suggests they visit Eidella because she has more information about the Gutters. After no small about of fussing over SNTR-1, Eidella gives the group the final lore dump of the session... The entity in the glass brain (Glis) they fought when they first met Emelia has come into its own, having created a new glass body that allows it to serve as Eidella's assistant. She has made Gutpunch Isolate (aka Goodpunch) that doesn't give the terrible side effects of Gutpunch and has been testing it on a small group of Gutters, including the Coast Guard's close friend, Eunice Mince. Goodpunch doesn't create shared dreams but it does have what she thought was a hallucinatory effect... unforunately, the Coast Guard was pretty sure that it just allowed the user to see into the Domain of Decay, which seemed to be rubbing right up against the Material Plane in specific places -- The Lodge, the Temple, the Arts District, and Castle Iverfort. Since Eidella thinks Goodpunch is more or less safe to use, the group plan to try it out, but not before they go shopping.
Leaf, knowing Hestia Neverburn had left town since her glassblowing shop was inoperable, asked Eidella to try to improve his glass magic weapon, hoping to add a modification that turns it into a Rose of Many Thorns...

- The Amanitas were not willing participants in the pact
- PenPal is not capable of breaking the pact herself, and can only help the Coast Guard indirectly
- Her partner (The Baron, supposedly) was in the pact for greed, PenPal's reasons were about bringing the Chelu-kaan out of their forced isolation
- Emelia suggested that the Coast Guard could help her find ways to break the pact if PenPal gave them more information
- PenPal wasn't happy with the pact. She blames her partner and fears that, should the pact break, Ylmyo-Aldon will destroy the Material Plane
- She is willing to think about letting the Coast Guard in, but asked for more time and the opportunity to push the limits herself
