1.19: Chelor Dun

General Summary

After descending into Senot Tik, Cheni was immediately hit with the realization that you should have come here while it was dark. In the initial search, you found a basin that detected with transmutation magic, but nothing stood out to you specifically.   Creedence spent time casting Water Breathing on everyone and then casting Speak With Animals to have a conversation with Nodum, Freya, and Khe'mon. They were very good natured but simple, and only one was able to give any helpful information: at night, people sometimes come to the sandbar and look at the far wall.   As Creedence rejoined the group to tell them of the information, an unnatural darkness enveloped the cave, intensely dark clouds and winds which obscured the opening of the cenote: the woods, answering Tristian's song from the morning.   After some brainstorming, Cheni brought a piter lamp to the far wall and passed it over the stone, revealing Chelor Dun. The prophecy felt important to all, but was difficult to decipher. Sultana became thoughtful and even more taciturn than usual for a time. Cheni came up with a few conclusions:

  1. Chelor Dun references a specific person who carries the mantle of Chelor before his reawakening. This person will have beguiling influence, the ability to see through lies and illusions, and an constant waking vigil.
  2. Chelor Dun seems to happen in phases. It is theoretically possible for this Avatar to reawaken Chelor without inciting the apocalypse, although the process does seem to be heavily in favor of a cataclysm.
  3. There are many references to piter and piter light in the passage. Paired with the fact that piter light revealed the passage, it is clearly an important part of the process. There are references to the Avatar having some experience with piter poisoning or another such accident and surviving against the odds.
After viewing Chelor Dun, the rest of Senot Tik was searched to find any other hidden messages. On the obelisks marking the entrance to the cave system, notes were found -- in charcoal, general conditions of caves beyond; in piter-reactive ink, a summons to "the Cathedral" signed in a completely foreign language. Coris was able to to deciper it: "Nai'ral". The script reminded Tristian of passages involving the Astral Plane, perhaps some derivative of a language spoken there.   Finally, Tristian Scried on Rhotel once more. He saw the elf captive in an iron cage in a large cave where a figure in a dark robe and ornate golden mask was speaking. The figure was able to detect the scrying sensor and appeared to change their speech to something less important. Tristian did hear that one among their number was to undergo a penitence. The masked figure approached the sensor, winked at it with their fully black eyes, and walked away. The elves the "preacher" had been speaking to began work casting Hallow, consecrating or descecrating the land inside the cavern.   Tristian also saw: lava mephits, a crystal golem, and a cleric type interacting with someone the scry was unable to percieve up at a forge.
