Zaraska (Zar ahs cah)

In the forests at the very edge of the explored regions of the world live the Zaraska. Standing roughly 12 feet tall the creatures are completely covered in course shaggy hair usually in shades of white, or grey. Their large heads are crown with small backward sloping antlers. Because of their heavy fur and lack of a distinctive neck no facial features are visible except for a pair a deepest beady black eyes. Though usually hidden by their fur Zaraska have wide mouths filled with stout spike like teeth that are equally suited to consume meat as they are for nuts berries and similar foods. Zaraska are somewhat lanky and have particularly long arms that end in stout four fingered clawed hands. These arms help the creature climb and easily move through trees and brush and are strong enough to kill deer and other large prey.   When they choose to hunt Zaraska prefer stealth using their exceptional sense of smell to locate a target before creeping up on it. Once in range of the target Zaraska attempt to break the neck of their target with their arms and hands. These ambushes are often fast and ferocious with the Zaraska either out right killing the prey or injuring it and stalking the creature until it succumbs to its injuries or exhaustion then finishing the job.    Zaraska while not sentient these creatures are intelligent and capable of problem solving and often have extensive knowledge of their territories. While often solitary Zaraska are not usually territorial with their own kind but disputes over food are not uncommon.   How dangerous these creatures are to travelers is unclear as they are not well studied or understood. Caution is recommended in areas where they are known to be.
