The Cliff of Faces

The Cliff of Faces is a recently discovered cliffside in an isolated meadow not far from the village of Barrsbee. The cliffside is carved with dozens of large faces each depicting a strong emotion ranging from laughter to sorrow, confusion to terror and a myriad of other emotions. Each of these faces has a steam of water pouring out of it which join together forming a disconcerting water fall. The cliffside was discovered . The cliff itself is short and unremarkable if one disregards the faces.   The craftsmanship on display is immaculate despite the apparent age of the monument. Whoever originally carved the faces took a great deal of care to make sure that aside from the emotions all of the faces are nearly identical to each other and are not connected to any one race or species and are more akin to the universal idea of a face than an actual representation of a singular people. Each face is carved so that the water is either coming out of its eyes or mouth depending on the emotion depicted.   The noise created by the water flowing through this macabre surface is similar to that of a crowd of people each trying to talk over each other and inevitably drowning out any semblance of conversation. The water seems to originate from an artesian spring and those brave enough to have tasted it claim that it is both clean and cool. After leaving the falls the water forms a lazily flowing stream weaving around several piles of rocks before going into the forest and eventually joining with a river.   While obviously old an approximate date has been difficult to place on the carving. The carving techniques seem to follow a general style of workmanship that is fairly universal and hard to date especially there has been some weathering of the structure over the years. More research will need to be done before anything else can be made of the cliff. For now it remains a curiosity and a good if creepy place to refill ones canteen.
