Nine Finger

Nine Finger is a title given to members of a reclusive group of money lenders, money changers, loan sharks, and similar money handlers that have taken an oath to Lothrin, the dwarven god of contracts and deals , to uphold the sanctity, responsibility and respect of their positions. Receiving the title marks the recipient as an incredibly reliable professional in matters pertaining to contracts, bonds, loans, and money changing while simultaneously marking that individual as ruthless and calculating in the same matters.
To receive this title the applicant must first find another Nine Finger, which can be difficult in itself as they are generally reclusive, prove to that person they have no current debts, are a competent practitioner of the trade, and have never defrauded some one by stepping outside the bounds of a contract. Should the applicant be found worthy they may then enter the "Nine Finger Contract". This contract is ostensibly with Lothrin and is finalized with the prospective Nine Finger severing one of their fingers at the second knuckle and cauterizing the stump in molten metal, usually gold or silver, in the presence of the observing Nine Finger. The finger and the metal are not important to the ceremony nor the method of removal only the fact that it was done matters, the what and how are left to the individual.
A person pretending to be a Nine Finger or a Nine Finger who breaks a contract should sleep with both eyes open as the others who hold this title do not look kindly on having their reputations tarnished in such a manner. Debts can be as easily removed as they are gained and their are many debtors who would jump at such a chance to clear their ledger, even if it meant becoming murder for hire. For the same reason running from a contract come due is also ill advised.
Persons who fail to uphold their end of a bargain with a Nine Finger must be ready to have their collateral collected in whatever form or value it was offered in contract. Usually this results in copious amounts of free labor, wares, professional services etc. being forfeited to the lending Nine Finger, though depending on the contract other more creative things may be required of the debtor.
