Tatzelwürm

Description

The tatzelwürm is a demon native to the Eltóriások born from the fear of what lurks below the dark desert sands. It combines a serpentine body with vaguely feline traits, with two prominent clawed feet that allow it to drag itself forward. Below the jaw it has a venom gland which can flow into a groove in its teeth, but it can also expel large amounts in a single glob at some distance. Its scaly skin is covered in an acidic ooze that protects it from much conventional harm.   Like all demons it naturally corrupts the area around it, in this case turning it into a toxic quicksand through which it can "swim" with ease. This is perfect for ambush tactics, as it can lurk below the rock and sand waiting for prey to get stuck in the quicksand before pouncing on its prey. It then drags its prey below the sands where it can then feast on the flesh and soul of its prey.

Intelligence and Behavior

The tatzelwürm may be a predator by its very nature, but it is a surprisingly cautious one for its kind. They are one of the few demons that always roam in packs, usually consisting of two to eight individuals. They wait patiently and use the environment to their advantage. But when the time comes to strike they match vigor with savagery. And when victory is clear in sight though their sadistic nature can come out, as they like to toy with lesser opponents.   Interestingly enough they have at times been seen to work together with other demons or even non-demon creatures when it suits them. They seemingly possess the ability to neglect a meal now for larger gain in the future, displaying a kind of planning and evaluation capabilities beyond its immediate needs and natural desires.
