History
The Moontouched Children were an ancient religious group whose faith centered on the moon and its cataclysmic destruction. Their history is tragically intertwined with the figure of Ruto Yoos and the decisive intervention of the Holy Three, known collectively as TOLAMEC. This history is now largely fragmented, pieced together from archaeological finds, fragmented texts, and whispered legends.
According to recovered fragments of Moontouched scripture and surviving oral traditions from other cultures, Ruto Yoos, a powerful elven mage of the Yoos bloodline, discovered an ancient dragon egg nestled within the moon's core. Utilizing this discovery, Yoos constructed a device capable of harnessing the egg's immense energy. This power source fueled the rise of a powerful elven empire under the rule of Onallis Mosalisun, marking a period of unprecedented advancement for elven civilization.
However, this act of drawing upon the dragon's power was deemed a grave transgression, upsetting the natural balance of the world. The Holy Three—Tollard Bravinio, Laminia Fliji, and Mechanyxia—intervened. They convened a celestial tribunal, judging Ruto Yoos and her entire bloodline for their hubris and the potential catastrophic consequences of their actions.
The verdict was swift and absolute. Not only was Ruto Yoos condemned to death, but the Holy Three decreed the complete eradication of the Yoos bloodline. This act was carried out during the execution itself, with every member of the Yoos family sacrificed alongside their matriarch. In a final, symbolic act, they stripped Yoos of her arms (representing the elves' overreach for power), her eyes (representing their blindness to the consequences), and finally pierced her heart. It was with Yoos's heart that the Holy Three channeled their combined power, shattering the moon city and then the moon itself.
Following the cataclysm, the Holy Three fashioned relics from the remaining parts of Ruto Yoos's body, imbuing them with potent magical properties. These relics, rather than becoming sacred objects for a continuing faith, became objects of fear and warning, reminders of the terrible consequences of tampering with forces beyond mortal comprehension.
Immediately after the destruction of the moon, the Holy Three vanished. No record remains of their fate. Some legends claim they ascended to a higher plane, exhausted by their immense undertaking. Others whisper that they were consumed by the very power they unleashed, or that they were taken by some other cosmic entity. Whatever their fate, they were never seen or heard from again.
The destruction of the moon had profound and lasting effects on the world, both environmentally and culturally. The Moontouched Children, deprived of their object of worship and their leadership, fragmented and eventually dissolved. Their temples fell into ruin, their scriptures scattered and lost. Today, only fragments of their history remain, serving as a cautionary tale of ambition, divine judgment, and the terrible price of power.
Tenets of Faith
The Book of Teachings is a series of manuscripts, written by the members of The Holy Three that describe the rules one should live by.
1. "Power stolen is power abused."
Tollard kicks a loose piece of lunar rock, sending it skittering across the cracked surface. "Look at this place," he says, his voice heavy with disappointment. "Yoos believed she could control the dragon's power, that she could bend it to her will. She stole what was not hers to take, thinking herself above the natural order." Laminia walks to the edge of a deep fissure, gazing down into the darkness. "She thought she was elevating our people, but all she did was bring us closer to ruin. This twisted machine," she gestures to the sparking device, "is a testament to her folly." Mechanyxia, her face etched with sorrow, lays a hand on Tollard's arm. "This destruction… it was inevitable. Because power stolen is power abused."
2. "The moon's light was corrupted by mortal hands."
Laminia runs her hand along a once-ornate wall, now crumbling and covered in dust. "This city… it was a beacon of hope, a symbol of our people's ingenuity," she says, her voice laced with sadness. "The moon's light shone upon it, blessing it with its ethereal glow." Mechanyxia walks to a broken window, looking out at the distorted reflection of their world. "But Yoos's ambition tainted that light," she replies. "She twisted it, used it for her own purposes. She forgot that some things are sacred, untouchable. The moon's light was corrupted by mortal hands, and now it fades, taking our glory with it."
3. "Hubris invites divine judgment."
Tollard stands before Ruto, his expression stern but tinged with regret. "Ruto Yoos," he begins, his voice resonating with divine authority. "You were gifted with great power, with great wisdom. But you let your ambition consume you. You believed you could control a force beyond your comprehension, that you could reshape the very fabric of existence." Laminia steps forward, her gaze piercing. "You defied the natural order, placing yourself above the laws that govern the universe." Mechanyxia looks at Ruto with pity. "You thought you were building an empire, but you were only building your own downfall. Remember this, Yoos, and let it be a lesson to all: Hubris invites divine judgment."
4. "The silence of the moon is a testament to justice served."
Mechanyxia stands at the precipice of the void, her face pale in the starlight. She raises a hand as if to touch the empty space where the moon once resided. "Listen," she whispers, her voice barely audible. "Do you hear it? The silence." Laminia steps beside her, her expression somber. "It is deafening," she agrees. "A silence that speaks volumes." Tollard joins them, placing a comforting hand on Mechanyxia's shoulder. "It is a silence born of necessity," he says. "A silence that marks the end of a great transgression. Let this void be a reminder to all: The silence of the moon is a testament to justice served."
5. "Balance is the domain of the divine, not of mortals."
Laminia points to the world below, her voice filled with concern. "The world below suffers," she says, her voice echoing with sorrow. "The storms rage with unnatural fury, the land is scarred, and the very air feels heavy with imbalance." Tollard nods grimly. "Yoos's actions have disrupted the delicate harmony of nature. She sought to control what was never meant to be controlled by mortal hands." Mechanyxia closes her eyes, a look of deep understanding on her face. "This is a lesson we must never forget: Balance is the domain of the divine, not of mortals."
6. "The Yoos bloodline bears the mark of transgression."
Tollard surveys the scene, his expression grim and resolute. "They were warned," he says, his voice echoing through the desolate landscape. "They were given a chance to repent, to turn away from their path of ambition." Laminia joins him, her gaze fixed on Ruto's lifeless form. "But they chose defiance," she says, her voice cold and unforgiving. Mechanyxia, her voice heavy with sadness, finishes the pronouncement: "The Yoos bloodline bears the mark of transgression, a stain that will not be easily washed away."
7. "TOLAMEC's hand is swift and just."
Setting: The moment of the moon's destruction, a blinding flash of light engulfing the moon city.
Characters: All three members, channeling their power, their faces illuminated by the intense light.

"For the sake of balance," Tollard cries, his voice strained. "For the preservation of order!" Laminia adds, her voice ringing with divine authority. Mechanyxia adds, "For the good of the world!" As the light intensifies, their voices merge into a single, powerful pronouncement: "TOLAMEC's hand is swift and just!"
8. "Forbidden knowledge breeds only destruction."
Setting: Yoos's laboratory on the moon, filled with arcane devices and strange experiments, some still sparking with residual energy.
Characters: Mechanyxia, carefully examining the devices, her expression a mixture of fascination and fear.
Scene: Mechanyxia carefully examines the strange devices in Yoos's laboratory, her fingers tracing the intricate runes etched into their surfaces. "She sought to unravel the secrets of the universe, to unlock powers that were never meant for mortal eyes," she murmurs. Laminia steps closer, her face etched with concern. "She delved too deep, she crossed boundaries that should have remained untouched." Tollard shakes his head sadly. "Her thirst for knowledge blinded her to the consequences. Let this be a warning: Forbidden knowledge breeds only destruction."
9. "The price of defiance is cosmic retribution."
Setting: The moon city crumbling, falling towards the world below, a rain of debris falling towards the planet.
Characters: Laminia, watching the destruction with a mixture of sorrow and resolve.
Scene: Laminia watches as the moon city crumbles and falls towards the world below, a rain of debris streaking across the sky. "Yoos defied the natural order," she says, her voice filled with a deep sadness. Tollard places a hand on her shoulder, his expression grim. "She challenged the very fabric of existence, thinking herself above the laws that govern the universe." Mechanyxia closes her eyes, her voice heavy with resignation. "And now, she and her entire bloodline pay the ultimate price. Let this destruction serve as a stark reminder: The price of defiance is cosmic retribution."
10. "From the void, TOLAMEC restored balance."
The three stand together, their faces etched with weariness but their eyes filled with a sense of grim purpose. The void where the moon once hung is a stark reminder of their actions. "The world is forever changed," Tollard says, his voice echoing across the emptiness. "But balance has been restored," Laminia adds, her voice filled with a quiet determination. Mechanyxia closes her eyes, her expression somber. "A balance bought with great sacrifice, but a balance necessary for the survival of all." As one, their voices resonate with divine authority: "From the void, TOLAMEC restored balance."
