Drackonis Species in Phenuxia | World Anvil

Drackonis

Origin: Native to the Dragon Realm, the Drackonis were born from the blood of Chandra, The Dragon Queen during one of her deaths. They are bipedal, kind, and intelligent. However, the Blood Dragons of the Dragon Realm saw them as an inferior species and enslaved them for many millennia. This caused the leaders of all the clans to come together and make a perilous journey to the hideout of the kobolds, where a portal to reality had been manufactured, through which they escaped to start a new life. Unfortunately, Dragons do not need technology to move between realms, and upon learning of the Drackonis' exodus, came to reality looking for their subjects. They resumed their reign of terror after finding the Drackonis hidden in the desert of the titan Incontinence.

During the Human Invasions:
The Blood Dragons took over the small city of drackonis that had settled in Desert Styx, barely established, still under construction. They promised a portion of their favorite drackonis power if they worked with them and assisted with the subjugation of their brethren. Many of these were Drackith whose pride had overtaken them, and considering themselves near in standing to the dragons, accepted authority over the people of Staropica, enslaving them for their cruel masters. This started an era of suffering, in which the dragon empire was constructed by slave labor. Many decades into their torture, a foreign nation known as the Humans, appeared on the edges of their city, intent on conquest. The people of Staropica were horrified, and their hope in the possibility that there was moral life in the lands beyond that might help them, was crushed. It was of little consequence, as the assault was quickly annihilated by the Blood Dragons, beings infinitely more powerful than a new species of mortals.

Post Human Invasion: The reign of the Blood Dragons continued for many more decades, but one day a human sorcerer named Abby Normal came to the aid of Staropica. It began when he changed the heart of one of the dragons' most dedicated servants, a blood drackonis by the name of Shen Kurasami. With his new friend in tow, he treated with each of the tribes, convincing their leaders to join him and Shen in a revolution against their cruel overlords. By all accounts, there is no reason a mortal should ever even pose a threat to a real dragon, but with a brilliant plan and some timely sacrifices they achieved a decisive victory.

Current status: The citizens of Staropica rejoiced, worshipping Abby as a savior to their people. He was given many gifts and promised a special place in the city should he ever wish to return. The Staropica Council was established from the tribe leaders that had risked their lives to win the freedom of the citizens. They now operate as a new system of governance with the goal of true leadership and protecting the will and wellbeing of their people.
Habitats:
Staropica
Desert Styx
Chandra, Realm of Dragons
Appearance: Could be mistaken for particularly horny lizardfolk, these draconic humanoids stand on clawed feet, and have clawed hands, but a scaley humanoid torso, and fairly humanoid face with extremely draconic features. Some are born with dragon features, like wings and tails, or slender but muscular bodies (most drackonis are fairly bulky as they grow muscle easily. Those that have these adaptations are considered "the finished product" by the blood dragons and are typically given positions of authority or luxury.
Traditions: Drackonis were initially segregated by the color of their scales to help the dragons better organize them. After generations each faction of drackonis had adapted highly to a single area of expertise. Although the separation of trades is no longer practiced by the liberated people of Staropica, the system was in place for so long it became in ingrained in their society through tradition, and so it is still fairly common to be able to associate scale color with profession. In modern times drackonis are finally allowed to mix, and the genetics of scale color that are passed down is more complicated. An offspring could share a color with either parent or even inherit the scale color of a distant relative. Most learn the trades of their parents, but plenty have branched out into other occupations using their newfound liberties.
Deities:
The Last Dragons were considered the Saviors
