The Free Lands of Men
The north eastern portion of Percens is known as The Free Lands of Men, and consists of a large number of independent clans and kingdoms, each with their own form of government and leaders. However with the threat of The Eastern Empire looming these disparate people banded together to form a loose alliance. This has allowed them to keep The Empire from expanding their hold in this part of the world through their combined military might while each still has maintained their own laws and traditions.
In the western portion of this region, the countries tend to be well established and stable. However, the further north east you travel, the less stable the nations become. Coups are common as different groups jockey for power among these chaotic governments. In fact, in the clan lands of the far east, control changes frequently and if it were not for their known ferocity in battle, the rest of the region would not tolerate them being a part of the coalition. This is especially true of the wild men of the Durstwood who are known far and wide for their independence and ferocity in battle.
The leaders of these nations meet in the unofficial capital of The Free Lands, Deeptown, which is located on the northern shore of the Sapphire Lake. This city is unique in that it is home to natives of all these disparate countries, making its culture varied and vibrant. Because of this, it has also become a bastion for outcasts from other nations of all races, religions, and walks of life. This variety makes it possible to find things in Deeptown that may not be accessible or easily found in the other cities of the world.
Located on the northern edge of the Bay of Storms is the city of Freton, one of the largest ports in Percens and capital of the Kingdom of Jardin. Jardin is the largest and most stable of the nations of the Free Lands ruled by Danieal Arden, known throughout Percens as a wise and just ruler. It was Danieal’s father, Nathan who formed the alliance of nations initially when he recognized that danger the rise of The Eastern Empire posed and Danieal is the driving force that keeps the countries banded together despite their differences. In fact, if it were not for his steadying presence, the wild men of the Durstwood would have broken from the alliance long ago, but he has a great relationship with the elders of those clans which has allowed the united nations to rely on both their numbers and ferocity in battle.
The recent war with The Eastern Empire has forced the clans and kingdoms to band together even more, their leaders now essentially living in the capital while directing their forces just across the Sapphire Lake in an attempt to keep The Empire's advance at bay.
