The Dwarven Stronghold of Clanhome

About two-hundred years ago, the dwarven kingdom of Divmar was nearing the heights of its power, a major trading post between the races that live in the Underdark and those that dwell on the surface. Coupled with the superior dwarven smiths that made the city their home, Divmar was as economically powerful as any of the similar sized kingdoms of men in the east if not more.   Expansion was also part of the Kingdom's growth as they sent three prominent family clans to three different Strongholds in strategic locations circling the main city. It was considered an honor to be permitted to rule a Stronghold in the name of Divmar's king, Arnis the Broad (Axefellow). However, the city fell pray to a large group of undead that swarmed up from the lower levels of the city and quickly overwhelmed the dwarves, despite their attempts to magically seal the city, the Strongholds were cut off from the city.   The Strongholds now had to adjust to not having any additional resources being brought in from Divmar they were forced to become self-sufficient quickly. During this transition time, one of the strongholds fell to an army of orcs that figured without the support of the city that the time was right to strike. The other Stronghold was unable to provide the resources needed to keep it operating and was abandoned and the clan responsible returned to try and discover what happened to the Divmar only to never be heard from again.   The third Stonghold, Clanhome, was slow at adapting to the change, and only through the efforts of several of their best warriors did they survive. They journeyed out into the world and being able to return with a number of riches were they able to keep the Stronghold going. The most acclaimed of these adventurers was Balias Orestar who led a team that was able to destroy a black dragon and bring the beast's horde back with them. That sustained the Stronghold for many, many years and allowed them to begin harvesting fungi to live off of while opening trade with nearby Winterfall, where Balias would eventually retire.   Clanhome has thrived since and was able to continue to grow relations with the City-State of Winterfall, often stumped for by Balias who had become friendly with a number of the city's council members. In many instances, young dwarven men are sent to Winterfall to experience the world outside of Clanhome, and to become the seasoned fighters and explorers that they will need to be to help defend the Stronghold. The majority of them return home in time, although there are a select few who decide to experience life outside the Clanhome and explore the world.

The Cult of Voloid

During the Battle of Voloid, Clanhome was a regular stop for The Heroes of Winterfall and played a pivotal part in the forming, and eventual defeat of the Cult. Once again, Balais rose to the occasion for the greater good of the stronghold, and sacrificed himself to try and stop The Cult from releasing their God. While celebrated for his heroism, the Clanhome also mourns the loss of a treasured member of their family.   With the re-emergence of the Kingdom of Divmar, Clanhome now fears they will lose their independence and the city will demand at least regular "tax" payment, if not more considering they are trying to bounce back from the nearly two century long isolation under the heels of a powerful Lich. So far, the communications have all been very civil, but include continuing inquiries on many matters, indicating they may soon ask for assistance.
