Pen of the Gacarra Tree (guh-CAR-uh)

"Hey! I've always wanted one of those!"
-a teenager watching his sibling unwrap a Gacarra Pen during Scharrfall
The pen of the Gacarra Tree is an organic writing utensil harvested naturally in Camonndom in the Long Forest. Favored by artists, nobles, or anyone wanting a fancy signature, the Gacarra Pen is an iconic and treasured tool.

What Is a Gacarra Tree?

The Gacarra tree is native to the Camonndom Kingdom on the suden (south) side of the Mith Sea. Once the trees grew where ever seeds fell but now, it is rare to find a wild Gacarra Tree since Gacarra orchards have become more and more common. Gacarra Trees are very picky about their growing conditions which means growers must be extra vigilant and accommodating for their trees to grow properly. Although the tree is nondescript and not particularly beautiful, it's value lies in the inside.

Money Doesn't Grow On Trees... But Pens Do!

Gacarra Trees aren't fruiting, don't have leaves which can be used, and are normally not used for decoration. So what are they useful for? Gacarra trees are unique and desirable for their golden sap. This golden sap runs thick through the branches and when one snaps off a smaller branch, one can see the solid core of seemingly gold sap.   Harvesters watch their Gacarra trees carefully and when they see a branch circumference of a normal writing utensil, they cut it off and place it in a warehouse to dry. After completing the drying process, the Gacarra Pen is ready.   Inside this wooden pen is a soft core of semi-waxy gold! When sharpened, the Gacarra pen produces beautiful, shiny words when used for writing and gorgeous sketches when used for drawing.

I'll Have That In Blue, Please

Although the typical color of a Gacarra Pen is gold, some harvesters have found ways to tint the sap of the tree by periodically injecting various dyes into the tree before harvesting. These colors are combined with the golden sap to create a shiny version of the dye.   Gacarra Pens are normally sold looking exactly the same from when they were harvested, with a sharp end of course, but some, especially for upper class buyers, have been customized with metal plating, etching, or jewel insertion on the outside of the pen.
