Snifen (sniff-ehn)
Snifen are the creation of the Sleep Core. They are masters of, well, sleep. They're slow but wise from the secrets and desires openly floating in the realm of Ribosia where they frequent. Their forms while there are more solid than most because of this.
A Snifen would rarely have beef with anyone - too much effort. They get along with strangers, beginning with the belief that everyone is innocent and a friend until proven otherwise.
Appearance
- Rotund and often coming in grey shades, Snifen appear as if a boulder grew short but thick limbs and started walking.
- Their arms, in particular, are wide and thick leading to large badger-like claw-capped fingers that match their smaller claw-capped feet
- Small fur-tufted tails that drag behind them.
- They can grow and style hair similar to humans, and similarly their eyes remain mostly in human colour territory.
- More notable about them though is their face, a Snifen has a long tapered snout like a small elephant trunk without the nostrils since they in fact cannot smell, the 'nose' acts more like a feeler ahead while burrowing or like a simple gripper.
- Rather it is their hearing and vibration sense through the same ears that they rely on.
- See a Snifen's ears are long ropy things that when trailed on the ground can sense minute vibrations, and when lifted have surprising hearing ability.
- The other thing about them; they can and will keep growing - often needing to be wrapped around the neck like a scarf or tied in knots, if not outright cut like hair every now and then.
Height & Weight: Snifen height can vary from 2 to 4ft / 60 to 120cm. They average around 130lbs / 60kg
Features
Burrowers
Those large clawed hands have the strength backed up behind them to burrow at a speed that can even be advantageous in combat, usually for taking cover since Snifen aren't usually confrontational. Actually, it's more likely an emergency sleeping spot.
That said, if threatened or needed, a Snifen can also do some serious damage with those claws.
While burrowing (usually while not in a rush) Snifen snouts feel about ahead of them since they actually have no sense of smell and their long ears trail out behind them to sense minute vibrations allowing them to 'see' in the dark.
Rope Supply
Snifen ears are like nature's bungee cord - incredibly strong with some elasticity give, it's not uncommon for a Snifen to sell their ear trimmings as rope. Might as well, since if they are not trimmed semi-regularly - like nails or hair - then a Snifen's ears will keep growing until they become a hindrance unless creatively tamed.
The Sleepy Ones
Made to sleep, Snifen are incredibly easy to put to sleep, with magic or otherwise. On top of that, activity that would tire out anyone else will do so twice over to a Snifen.
In exchange, Snifen gain so much more physically from sleeping. They can fully recover from half as much sleep as a human does and when taking a quick 10-minute nap they can reinvigorate themselves where most would need an hour.
