Master of the Skies Jorunn Jorunnsonn (a.k.a. XIII)

Personal history

As far as anyone can remember, there's always been a Jorunnsonn acting as Master of Trade for the dwarven king. They may not have always carried the name "Jorunnsonn", but the same bloodline has tracked inflation and dispersed vital goods across Dheg Lhodar since the first kings of old.   Jorunn, the 13th of his name, always knew that he would one day take his father's place. The joy and infectious curiosity his family found in economic theory and theory of value quickly took root in him. He was hardly seen without a copy of the latest imports and exports of Abri Ta, searching for small optimizations that his father or his dozens of subordinates might have missed.   He worked closely with his father through his adolescence. Not a decision was made by one without the other. Those were good days to be a Jorunnsonn - Jorunn's father had made King Grun rich, and in those days the King did not let talent go unrecognized. Their land holding grew and profits soared under the benevolent King. Jorunnsonns outside the paternal lineage were able to pursue dreams beyond the reach of the common dwarf. Some invested and rested on their laurels. Others constructed breweries or funded churches to Moradin.   This comfort was quickly shattered by an assassination attempt on Jorunn's father. One of Jorunn's uncles had made an enemy of another dwarven House, and they had come for their bit of recompense. It was a cowardly strike without honor, ignoring the law of The Unforgivable. Thanks to a brave guard who acted beyond the call of duty, his father was able to barely survive the attack. Forced to confront the reality of his family's vulnerability, Jorunn swore that this would never happen again.   In his younger days, Jorunn did not strike a physically imposing figure. He was slim from years of bookkeeping and debates, and he knew he couldn't physically defend himself without change. He also did not have the time or talent for magic, so he turned to physical combat for self-preservation. It took years of intense training with a member of the King's Guard to create the dwarf he is today: built like a brick wall and strong as an ox. He also took advantage of his family's nearly-endless funds, purchasing a set of impeccable dwarven plate and an axe like none had ever seen before. His goal continued to be safety for himself and his own.   Jorunn's father passed the title of Master of Trade to him in 34 AC. Fourteen years later, The Changing of Hands changed everything. In its aftermath, King Grun dubbed Jorunn Master of the Skies, giving him free rein of Fak Egglezib's airships.
