The Unforgivable

A dwarvish custom to preserve the honor of one which has been horribly wronged and punish the wrongdoer. The list of possible dishonorable actions is long, and range from small slights to the unforgivable. The punishments also vary, from verbal reprimands to bodily harm to extinction of the wrongdoer.

The Process

One may invoke "The Unforgivable" on an individual or group. To do so, one privately describes the wrongdoing to the Keeper of Truth, an elderly and respected member of the community, and have the wrong confirmed by a witness. The Keeper chooses an appropriate punishment and, depending on its severity, carries out the punishment herself or releases a public declaration to summon the necessary personnel.

Punishment for Incorrect Use

To invoke The Unforgivable without valid reason is one of the greatest sins known to dwarves. Punishments for such an unforgivable sin are intended to be as painful and slow as possible. Some examples include: drawing and quartering, slowly dripping molten rock, and, for the greatest offenders, a cycle of brutal deaths and revivification.
