The Founding War

As the continent of Meladoria was ravaged by the hordes of the Raider King in the Age of Scouring, two civilizations fled their homelands and made the treacherous journey over the Deascal Mountains. It was in the valley formed by the southeastern and southwestern arms of the mountain range that this ragtag alliance established the Telesmatan Alliance. However, the Deascal Mountains did not provide the protection the Alliance had hoped for. Trapped between the mountains and the ocean, the Telesmatan Alliance had no choice but to make their final stand.   The Telesmatan Alliance seemed to have every possible disadvantage - they were severely outnumbered, had extremely limited supplies of weapons and armor at the ready, and were completely cornered. The Raider King's forces, on the other hand, benefitted from having the valley in which the Telesmatans had placed themselves entirely surrounded, along with a vast stockpile of plundered equipment.   Most of the fighting occured at the foot of the Deascal Mountains, with the Telesmatans fighting to hold the line and keep their enemies up in the mountains and away from crucial resources.   The fighting was brutal, claiming thousands of lives for the Telesmatans. Some reports claim that the rivers ran red with the blood of slain Telesmatans. Still, the Telesmatan Alliance remained defiant- if anything, these losses only made them fight more ferociously. But the Raider King's forces were not daunted by the newfound zeal, and slowly began pushing towards the coast. All seemed lost until Telesmatan soldier Jaciano Vanchora did the unthinkable and successfully made a starbinding pact with the Sun.   The vast power granted to Vanchora's 'sunbinding' singlehandedly turned the tide of the conflict. In one move, Vanchora reduced an entire battalion of the Raider King's army to embers and ashes. Such an overwhelming display of arcane power would've been enough to send the enemy running, but Vanchora had no intentions in letting them escape the valley. In his eyes, too many Telesmatans had died at the hands of the Raider King and their army to just allow them to terrorize some other faction. The fury with which Vanchora burned the invaders had never been seen from him before, and would never be seen again. When the smoke cleared, the entirety of the Raider King's army- and presumably the Raider King with them- had been completely wiped out.

The Conflict

Aftermath

After the threat of the Raider King was removed, the Telesmatans viewed Vanchora as an almost god-like or saint-like figure, asking him to lead them as they established a proper homeland for themselves. Though Vanchora was reluctant at first, he soon saw that the Telesmatan Alliance would collapse without someone they could look to for guidance. Jaciano Vanchora was declared the first king of Telesmata.

Historical Significance

Legacy

To this day, the legend of Jaciano Vanchora channeling the power of the Sun has left an indelible mark on the culture of Telesmata. The art of starbinding is held in high regard by Telesmatans, and the city of Narcella is home of the elite starbinding academy known as the Astrellarium. Most members of the Royal Family throughout history possessed at least minor starbinding pacts.
