Daniil Dankovsky, a Bachelor of Medicine, was brought here by circumstances most unfortunate. Dankovsky's lifework, his theory challenging the existing notions of human mortality, is being harshly persecuted by the Powers That Be. Suddenly a letter arrives from a colleague, suggesting that there is previously undiscovered evidence which may support Dankovsky's claims. There is a settlement, the letter says, ruled by an extraordinary man who may well be seen as objective proof of Dankovsky's daring hypothesis. Grasping at straws of hope, Dankovsky decides to follow what he believes to be a sign of divine providence. Without further ado, he sets off for the settlement.

Personal history
Dankovsky grew up as a lonely child. He spent his time collecting beetles and enduring harsh training and lessons from his father, who was an officer in the military. His father aspired for him to join the war and young Daniil accepted that dream. He was taught to shoot a gun with startling accuracy at age ten. With his skill, his father believed he would go on to become and great conqueror. After learning his mother died during his birth he found a new dream: he set out on a mission to defeat death and unlock the secrets to immortality. He sought to spare others from the fate that befell his mother. His father was greatly displeased with his choice, but relented and let him attend university sometime after the last war.
Despite his intellect, Dankovsky struggled through University. He primarily majored in anatomy & physiology and spent many nights cooped up in labs or hunched over his desk in his shared dormitory. The Stamantin brothers were his close, and only, friends during his educational years.
After earning his degree, he and a close circle of colleagues founded the Thanatica. There, he spent several years researching death and searching for ways to "cure" it. During his time there, he briefly met Aglaya Lilich during a presentation where he successfully reanimated dead tissue. In doing so, he became a minor celebrity, and is even known within the town before his arrival. His accomplishments have drawn both awe and ire, as there are powers that would rather he be quietly disposed of.
He arrives in The Town after receiving a letter from his colleague Isdor Burakh about a human man that was 150 years old named Simon Kain. He hopes that, by verifying his age, he can keep his laboratory and research in tact.

Dankovsky completed his required six years of medical education and his year of residency at the Thanatica.
