Personal history

Pepperpot lived up in the Lendover Mountains a long time ago and remained there for centuries, even when everyone else in her village was long gone. Always a nurturing soul at heart, she tended to those in need, even if they were outsiders. She's old enough to have aided the Lend pilgrims when they passed through her village to journey to the lands beyond the mountains. Her kindness and charity became known to some of the surrounding areas and travelers who feared a difficult trip over the mountains would turn to her for guidance and a good, home-cooked meal. In her mortal age, she was a mother, a grandmother, and a pillar of her community. Pepperpot put others before herself, always sacrificing her time or possessions to ensure that everyone else was cared for.   She feared death greatly. Not because of the unknowns it presented, but because it would tear her away from her true purpose in this world. As time continued crawling forward and age took its toll on her body, Pepperpot was desperate to find a way to stay with her people. On her deathbed, she called out to any being that would listen and pleaded for immortality. The only one to answer such a call was Asmodeus. Due to her reservations, she declined his offer that would bind her soul to him and instead, she challenged him. Asmodeus found her audacity to be both insulting and amusing, so he agreed. It was a competition to see who was better at cross stitch, as per Pepperpot's request, and the subject of their craft would be the goddess Sabella.   Being a literal deity himself, Pepperpot was sure her chances of winning were slim to none, but if she did succeed, she could flee from the clutches of death. She worked tirelessly on her project, knowing that she could die at any moment, and despite all odds, she stitched a beautiful, intricate portrait of Sabella resting in a field of wildflowers. Asmodeus' craft, on the other hand, lacked the same passion Pepperpot had and so, she won eternal life. Embarrassed by his failure, Asmodeus tried to get the last laugh by gifting her immortality through lichdom. Her undead state frightened the village at first, but after months of watching her carry out her usual routine, they knew it was still their kindly grandmother.   Pepperpot cared for many generations of her people and never tired of it. She adored everyone and when it was their time to pass on into the afterlife, she was always at their bedside to see them off. Pepperpot lost most of her people to Jolene Canterbury and her undead forces during the War of Life and Strife. The survivors fled to Caelsimil and once the war concluded, Pepperpot was left with nothing more than a ghost town. Her grief led her to fall dormant until she was found nearly three centuries later by Jordeira Ferus.   When she heard his plans to found a place that intelligent undead could call home, it reminded her of the time she spent caring for many generations of villagers and strangers alike. It was enough to wake her from dormancy. After observing her for some time, Jordeira felt like it was the right decision to appoint Pepperpot as the mayor of Necropolis and the leader of The Grayveils. Pepperpot is thrilled to fulfill her purpose once more.
