Session 51: An Eye for Art

General Summary

Not wanting to head out on the sea for months without exploring some of what this continent has to offer, we travel inland to a town surrounded by rumors of strange occurrences. After a child named Chester went missing, all of the guards who were investigating his disappearance turned up missing as well. With money involved, we're more than happy to put on the detective hats and get to work, though our investigation doesn't turn up much...aside from the creepy, abandoned home on the outskirts of the town. You know, the same possibly haunted house that the townsfolk failed to mention. Obviously that's the lead that the guards failed to discover, so we forgo questioning any more useless townsfolk and head straight for what would turn out to be goddamn purgatory.   Amelia doesn't trust this situation nor the house, but the rest of us invite ourselves inside because we think it's nothing more than a drug den. We're proven wrong the minute we all make it inside and the door slams shut behind us. It disappears, taking Amelia's sanity along with it. The windows provide a view of an inky abyss no matter where we look, so we have no choice but to head further in. We turn up every room we step into, each of us feeling eyes on us at one point or another, and find several odd trinkets and clues. Upon finding a pair of magic clocks, TT winds them both to the same time, only to be ambushed by dozens of red eyes that are clearly malicious. Despite that, her curiosity gets the better of her and she tries that several more times before I suggest winding each clock to a different time...which earns us a tiny door materializing between them.   As soon as we wonder whether we should head inside or not, we're teleported in with no way of going back. Lothric, unable to join us on that thought process, is left behind with whatever ghosts linger in that space. We, on the other hand, find our way into an art gallery run by an overly flamboyant, but also otherworldly being. He's rambling on about eyes before he disappears and we're left to wander at our leisure. By that, I mean we absolutely destroy this gallery because fuck puzzles. We burn a majority of the paintings and steal a few before making our leave. We arrive at a courtyard surrounded by descending stairs next. Amelia and TT go down to investigate the shattered, stone tablet by a statue and after a few moments, they're grappled by shadow hands. The disembodied hands begin to pull them into the sky, but both of them manage to escape and we all flee into a nearby cellar.   Not much is here besides rusted metals and rotting vegetables, but TT manages to figure out the puzzle that gifts us a handsaw. It's magical, but we have no clue what it does. We take it with us as we leave and rush for the other side of the courtyard, slipping past strangely moving shadows that lead into a study room. There's all sorts of books kept here, anything from the magical to the mundane. Tucked inside of one called "The Eyes of a Child" is another torn piece of a painting with an eye on it. It matches the other painted eye I found earlier, so we make our way back to the art gallery to see if we can restore one of the pieces to place the eyes onto it.   Upon entering, the curator has the nerve to ask us if we're fans of art as he's surrounded by the remains of our last visit. TT and Amelia distract him with polite conversation about the intricacies of the art we stole while I collect the ashes of the painting of a haunted child, which I then toss into an empty, but magical frame. It's unable to restore it and when the curator asks what I'm doing, he realizes that the eyes he was rambling about earlier are within reach. Such a gift shouldn't be wasted, according to him, but they can only work when paired together. Amelia hands the other eye to me, but I'm unsure of accepting the curator's "gift". I decide to go through with it and he takes my hands that are holding out the eyes. As soon as he disappears, I'm hit with blinding pain before I open my two new and bright, green eyes. The eyes of a child that the book referenced, as well as what the curator longed for.
