Session 36: Jailbird Report in Pathfinder Pirates | World Anvil

Session 36: Jailbird

General Summary

After killing the elves, we hurry towards the heavily guarded treasury. Residents of this small town are filing onto the streets to watch the chaos unfold or actively participate, providing a distraction to keep the soldiers away from us. The guards outside the treasury put up a decent fight though, managing to knock us around and send Cayde fleeing, but we turn the tides at the last second. With them dead, Brutus finds our next enemy in the form of a door. Despite his best efforts to break through like the Kool-Aid Man, he gets himself stuck and is dragged along uncomfortably as Owkbanok opens it. Turns out it was unlocked the entire time, so we all awkwardly shuffle past Brutus. Even with all of his might, he fails to secure his victory against the reinforced wood.     While the exterior of this place was crawling with guards, the interior is surprisingly quiet and empty. We find a stock room that the elves had been using for their supplies and pilfer some things before slipping into an office. Well, me and TT can see that it’s an office anyways. The military had placed an illusion over it, disguising it as a bathroom and this entire affair leaves Brutus more than baffled. Eventually Owkbanok realizes what’s going on, but even with his explanation, Brutus can’t see past the illusion. For the rest of us, there’s a locked vault that requires a password and each time we fail to figure it out, it shocks us. Brutus is horrified as he now thinks current day showers require a password and it’s at this point that we have to turn to Nathan to free him from this illusionary misery.     It works, but that still leaves us at square one. While the others try to guess the password or find other ways around it, I slip away into one of the record rooms. It’s being used as a camp and after flipping through some journals, I manage to find what we’re looking for. I return to the others, uttering “acid bath” in elven, and the vault finally opens up. Inside is a plethora of magical weapons. Everything from longswords to rifles, so of course we’re going back on our word and taking everything we can. There’s also a pile of gold bars that add up to more than forty-thousand gold, so we finagle with our bags and chests to make sure we can hide them all away. Military ships are pulling into the docks and it isn’t long before the streets are crawling with soldiers. Everywhere we look, rebels and residents alike are being beaten and arrested. There’s no easy way to slip away to our ship undetected, so TT offers herself up as bait.     She’ll pretend to be a rebel and we’re all upstanding individuals who caught her while she was looting the treasury. When the soldiers arrive to see what the hell we’re up to, TT sells her rouse by kicking me in the balls and spitting on the soldiers. We explain what happened and how we put an end to her delinquency and they arrest her, urging the rest of us to head home ASAP. They send us back with an escort and when she finds out we have a ship, she’s a little suspicious. Not very observant though as she buys up our merchant lie and doesn’t give our “official” papers a second thought. She drops us off and bids us farewell. TT had told us before that if she wasn’t back within three hours, come and find her. So it’s a long, anxiety ridden wait, but there isn’t much we can do.     TT makes quick work of escaping her cell, but the other prisoners catch her and are waiting on bated breath. She assures them that she’ll come back for them and her lie’s enough to keep them quiet. With two guards in her immediate path, she crawls up to the ceiling to get around them, only for one of them to shoot her down without even looking. It could’ve been the end of the line for her, but they buy her excuse that she was a private inspector this whole time. She has them sign some papers, stating that the general will be very proud of them for passing the inspection and while they find this all strange, they let her go without any questions. The man who arrested her is waiting upstairs though and while she tries to distract him with her shade, he catches her as she bolts for the door.     This time, she says she was sent here by her master to take inventory of the treasury’s items. The elves in these parts are apparently dumber than Brutus because we could say anything to them and they’d eat it up. He scolds her for not telling him sooner because he could’ve killed her and shoos her out of the prison. TT bolts through the town, making it back to the ship in mostly one piece. While the cleric and Owkbanok tend to her, I use a feather token to push the military ships out of our way and drift us back to sea before they can catch up. After a few more days of travel, our destination is finally in sight.
