Session 29: Through the Looking Glass Report in Pathfinder Pirates | World Anvil

Session 29: Through the Looking Glass

General Summary

After meeting back up on the ship, we fill Owkbanok in on our vampire mishap before our arrival to Serengeti. He’s not surprised in the slightest that an argument between TT and Amelia led us straight to our doom, but he is disappointed in missing out on the chance to fight monsters. We briefly discuss heading back to that island before focusing on the task at hand. We need to recruit enough sheep for the slaughter and by that I mean, we need a bunch of squishy bodies we’ll never remember to bolster our numbers and give us a fighting chance against the elven navy. We could just wander around looking for the perfect fit for our crew, but we need recruitment in masse, so what better way to do that than a party?     Said party is a massive failure in the beginning. We get one solid criminal, a couple of tourist types, and a foreign sheep farmer who’s fearing for his life every second he’s lost here. Eventually, our desperation leads us to shouting our needs on the street until we’re able to gather a decent group and we celebrate by playing “Never Have I Ever” with our captain. What we learn is this dude is seriously not cut out for a life of piracy because he’s hardly done a thing outside of petty crimes and a few sexual conquests. Both TT and Amelia end the game blackout drunk, so me and the captain are left to drag their sorry asses back to the ship. In her unconsciousness, one of Amelia’s spells is triggered and we’re treated to the sight of her clones running through the streets, panicking and shrieking as they scatter.     We promptly try and ignore the sight, but it’s the captain’s only distraction to me prying into his first mate’s history. We see this woman with him all the time, but she’s never spoken a word to any of us and he’s not inclined to share a goddamn thing. So next best move? Hire Antic, kobold detective…who only knows so much because he lives inside the walls of our ship. With a hefty payment of a few shiny trinkets and buttons, he agrees to spy on Lonnie for me and will report back with any information of interest. I pay Stabby a visit to see if they know anything. Surely the ship’s cook would have all sorts of gossip! But nope. They don’t know a thing about her either and mentions that she’s eerily quiet and tends to avoid interacting with anyone. Strange, but they agree to let me know of anything they learn about her as well.     Meanwhile, Owkbanok is still trying to teach Noah magic. Even after months at sea, all Noah’s capable of doing is a little bit of fighting (not much) and of course, bartending. Julius offers to help teach him seeing as how he’s old as balls and has been doing magic probably as long as the first dragons have, but Owkbanok somehow forgets that our ship’s mage has magic. He makes the mistake of asking Julius if he’s even capable of doing magic himself, leaving Julius so offended that he nearly storms away and rescinds his offer. He agrees to do it for five gold a month and with that, Amelia suggests we head back to her home continent to upgrade our ship. She wants to get a hold of military grade weapons, so we’ll need to go in disguise. Me and Owkbanok voice how we’re tired of playing the slaves and prisoners in all these plans, so Amelia and I will be military officials, Owk will be our hired mercenary, and TT volunteers herself as the slave this time.     One the way there though, Amelia spots a shipwreck in the distance and with this being a good chance for treasures; we make an immediate detour. TT isn’t fond of any of this considering the last abandoned island was chock full of vampires, but I assure her that encounters with sea vampires is a rarity. Tonari joins us on our expedition and picking through this ship has us thinking this was a vessel used by the Sea Scoundrels. They were a pirate crew who existed before our time and then mysteriously vanished. I find a journal written by their captain 75 years ago, but with no time to read through the whole thing, all I learn so far is that he was being followed by someone…or something. Deeper in we go, finding some hatches that lead into an underground cavern system. We find piles of bones and trash everywhere, a giant scorpion at one end (who we decide not to fuck with), and a golem that nearly kicks our asses.     One alcove in the cave looked like a living space of sorts as there’s a large mirror with a cauldron set up beside it. There’s fairly recent tracks in the room and I determine that they either belong to an orc or a half-orc. There’s also a compact mirror shaped like a clam that grabs Amelia’s attention and for good reason. Her birth name is engraved into the interior and while this could be coincidence, uttering its command words immediately shows Amelia within the mirror. After some more inspecting, I realize this is a hag’s lair, but Amelia shuts me down before I can even hint that this particularly hag might be her true mother. Owkbanok finds a coin from Dreadnought’s nation, TT finds some powerful bracers in the mud, and with this room as thoroughly looted as it can be; we move on.
