Stormbridge Castle

Stormbridge Castle is a large fortress located on Darmeny Bay and rests just north of the city of Riabella. Stormbridge Castle was originally built by the Aedrian Empire during its colonization of the New World as a military outpost. It served as a defensive garrison for the city, while also scouting the surrounding area. During this time, Stormbridge Castle possessed no real name and was largely a timber and wrought-iron structure with a mess hall, communal barracks, and a stables. During its early years, the fortress could hold up to one hundred men, but as the city of Riabella expanded, so did the fortress. The addition of stone walls and an official keep was a welcomed change as the castle had suffered immense damage during the arcanic superstorm seasons. At the same time, the city of Riabella used additional stone to construct the Twin Bridges that went to the Castle and to the Mainland, which aided in security coming into and out of the city. As revolutionary sentiments bolstered across the continent, military officials saw the castle as a well-defended and well-placed position for holding prisoners. This fact, plus the fact that many of the soldiers now lived outside the castle and in the city of Riabella due to the lack of living space, allowed soldiers to make the decision to convert the castle into a real prison for political dissentents. The irony of this decision was that the greatest weakness of the revolution was its far and away leadership made communication impossible. By placing revolutionaries together in a single fortress, that issue was absolved and many of the first operations were planned this prison. During the Revolution, military forces abandoned the castle to reach more strategic positions within the wilderness, and the fortress fell with little difficulty. However, it would be later recaptured during the Battle of Riabella, before being expelled again in the Second Battle of Riabella.Because of its great construction, the castle stood strong against the Dwarven Cannons, while Riabella burned and was destroyed. Following the Revolution, many of the masterminds came together at Stormbridge Castle to name it the official residence of their new Emperor, seeing its story of an oppressive place liberated by the people as symbolic to their own story. Stormbridge Castle still exists today as the palace of the Setican Emperor.
