Session 36: Visiting Sohmweyr Part 4 Report in Pascelus | World Anvil

Session 36: Visiting Sohmweyr Part 4

General Summary

Summary: 2 points

Winding down at the Sohmweyr common house

Dinner and catching up
Saf and Bursk, worn out from their respective efforts, turn in early.   Maya introduces Tarek Simmot, his new acquaintance. The owlin immediately clocks Kolvonnin's holy symbol but doesn't recognize the Order of the Rising Twilight - Holy Symbol. When the druid gets around to introducing Harb, he notes that there's now a second eye in the skullplate, so the party fills him in on the recent events. Maya takes it in without major issue.   Harb inquires of Tarek how long he's been in town, so he relates again: He also shows the mark on his head where it looks like he might have had a significant wound in the past. Tarek further explains that he took on the work with the guard partly as a way of thanking them for saving his life, and he doesn't remember how he came to be in the forest or any details from his life before. The party at large has not met an owlin before, but have heard of them.
Closing out the night
Harb tries to mull over the memories recently stirred up. While he gains no new insights, he's had a little time to process the maelstrom and is a bit more at peace with what's happened.   Sunny performs for the locals and racks up a little silver (13 sp) for his trouble. Maya makes the attempt to enhance the performance with Druidcraft but his timing is out of alignment - off-putting but not so far as to ruin it.   Leucis engages in prayer for guidance towards Leng. He feels a tenuous connection to Selune but only gets an image of a shadow passing before the waning crescent moon, like haze or smoke.

Sunday, 24th of Leafbreak

Starting off the day

At Day's End
Sunny checks in on Blazing Zenith, who's settled down a bit from yesterday's events. He asks if that's the normal thing in the outside world, and Sunny clarifies that most outside world life isn't that wild. The bard suggests catching up with Kolvonnin about his time working as a caravan guard.   Maya looks in on Tranquil Rainfall cooking breakfast (eggs and bacon) and gets sent to the henhouse for more eggs. The druid casts Speak with Animals, and has a minor disagreement about whether he belongs with the rooster. As a distraction, he brings in a little extra feed to distract them while he collects eggs.   During breakfast, Glittering Dew explains that Golden Daybreak is making her a room of her own. Sunny favors her with playing along with her plans. When the recently acquired donkey comes up, Maya explains that his name is Cinnamon, which Dew finds a bit confusing. Maya also suggests that Cinnamon likes "sweet sticks" and Dew says she'll have to share some of hers with him. Maya resolves to show Dew the tricks he has taught Cinnamon.   The pair sticks around the farm until about midday before heading into town to check in with the rest of the group. Sunny helps Goldy with woodcutting and Maya helps Blaze with the animals.
Back in town
Saf, Harb, and Kolvonnin do some more sparring and practice with (a much reduced selection of) the locals.   Leucis elects to take the day off, seeing the town, meeting a few locals and doing a little shopping at the Sohmweyr Market. He turns up a few items of interest and acquires a Coin of Delving (DnD Beyond).

That afternoon

Sunny and Maya leave the farm on their various errands - Sunny to the practice field and Maya to another spot for a long spell.
Sunny and Saf coordinate
Sunny suggests to Kol that he might also tell Blaze about his time guarding caravans.   As Saf plans to be busy, she makes arrangements with Sunny to look for items of interest to her, both at the main shops and during Market Day tomorrow. The rogue hands over 250 gold (of the 500 gold budget) and bids the bard not spend it unnecessarily.
Maya casts another long spell
Maya links up with Tarek again and casts the Plant Growth (DnD Beyond) spell. He notes that the weather here is pretty steady by comparison to most places, and as a result the local wild creatures are not as widely varied as they might be. He also notes that the fact that there's settled land here seems to have a very light impact on the nature in this place, which is a refreshing change from most settlements. It reminds him a bit of home despite the differences in populace and biome.
Sunny heads to the Sohmweyr General Store
Sunny chats with Babbling Brook and acquires a few items at a significant discount (130 gold, 80 of which is for the ring, 10 gold for the tankard, and 40 for the other pair): She also has a gold salt cellar engraved with draconic scales, but it's a little too rich for Sunny's blood (she offers it at 400 gold, but is sure it's worth 750 in the right market).
Dinner and catching up
Bursk seems pretty sore from the day's exertions, and Saf is similarly run down.   Maya runs across an overlooked jar of an uncommon pepper and steps up the flavor of the evening.   Sunny presents Saf with the Ring of Mind Shielding (DnD Beyond) - the rogue seems overjoyed at having located this unusual trinket and calls the bard a good friend. Sunny's is stoked at this reaction.   Sunny also makes use of his new Pipe of Remembrance (DnD Beyond) for the evening's performance, recounting the recent events around the fight with the cultists (see Session 29 and Session 30 that saved the town. The locals are super interested in this display and ask a few party members questions about their part in the events. Sunny accumulates another 23 silver for this performance.   Sunny advises the group a few things to note about the local market regarding Market Day:
  • Folks from both near and far tend to come in for it. This includes scavengers, farmers and hunters from the surrounding area, and other isolated folk.
  • Many of the visiting merchants leave the market when they sell their wares, so there's no guarantees on items being available.
  • While there's not a reputation of shady dealings, most folks don't have the Identify spell, so they may not know what they're selling or be trustworthy about it.
  • Lots of unusual things have turned up from time to time, but it's very much "luck of the draw."
Later that evening Maya receives Wisdom of the Elders of Hearthstone in his dream.

Woodday, 25th of Leafbreak

The group comes up with a game plan: split up for shopping and meet back at the common house during midday.   Kolvonnin suggests that the group look for platinum rings; Sunny advises that Brook may have a few such items laying around. Sunny and Maya also commit to replacing Rain's broken measuring cup.   After breakfast, Saf heads off to train and the rest of the party goes to the market.

Market Day shopping

Everyone buys at least a single item (aside from Saf, who is otherwise engaged). See Rewards Granted for details.   Two of the items (ironskin oil and Humphrey's Thump-Freeze) have labels attached with a logo:
Leucis recalls seeing this sigil from his studies when he was an aspiring wizard. It belongs to Glau Alchemical. The cleric isn't aware of any massive alchemical production company in the world, so if they're active it would have to be somewhere Leucis isn't familiar with.

Winding down the day

Sunny Identifies the items folks don't recognize, and hands Saf back her change from scouring the market.   Maya performs a third cast of Plant Growth (DnD Beyond) near the town, and notes that the Mud Wall on the southwest side of town seems to attract the local water elementals.

Next steps:

  1. Conclude the visit to Sohmweyr.
    • Visit the graveyard (Sunny).
    • Check the general store for platinum rings (Kolvonnin+)
  2. Between session tasks:
    • Update Wisdom of the Elders of Hearthstone with the most recent set of questions (James/DM)
    • Lay the track to Leng/Estimarth (DM)
    • Pay Sunny for his performances (DM)
    • Add new equipment to character sheets and Party Gear(DM)
  3. Out of Character tasks:
    • Check through character sheets and Party Gear verify inventory and update cash (players)
    • Re-spec Saf (Matt)

Session Feedback

Eddy: One more day in Sohmweyr. Pit stop but it's a cool town. The shopping grab-bag that we all had access to was cool.
Heather: I got my mileage out of Sohmweyr, and it was fun interacting with Sunny's family but it's time to go do something else now. Market day was cool, but it's a pity I didn't roll better. Glau Alchemical and finding extra things out about the world is fun.
James: Yay loot! I'm glad we're finally at the end of Sohmweyr and getting back into the field. We've had a lot of RP going on lately and I miss the thrill of combat. The design of market day was interesting, everyone had some neat stuff and had their own selection to choose from. I would have liked some more player agency or influence over outcomes, but we were trying to get through it. I feel like we got our mileage out of Sohmweyr, lore and reveals, and the stuff Heather came up with for her backstory.
Jeremy: Exit is upon us. I'm excited to get out of town and the shopping was a great way to cap off the experience. Market day was fun, interesting approach - everybody gets their own little loot drop and has to make decisions about what to go for or not. It felt there was more involved and more at stake.
Matt: Really happy to be immune to Zone of Truth. Looking forward to using the re-spec version of the character. Happy to see Bursk is trying to adjust.
Meg: I was really interested in Market mehcanic. I'm glad to be leaving Sohmweyr. I wish I could have been more RP ish but my head is full of phlegm.
John: I've enjoyed Sohmweyr but we have a ton of things the group hasn't played with yet. I'm glad folks felt like market day went well and that cool stuff emerged from it, but it was kind of a one-off thing to do. If it had been the first session in Sohmweyr I'd have made it more involved and more like a scene, but I'm kind of done with the town at this point. I got caught up for two hours making the logo for Glau... I get caught up in the weirdest shit making this game.
