Naufreck

Naufreck is the chaotic god of Daaraxioi's spawn to which was assigned the domain of Water. Female in most pantheons, Naufreck controls the more chaotic and violent nature of her element, as sea storms, shipwrecks and floodings. Feared the most in coastline settlements, Naufreck is also considered the mother of sea monsters and the deity most responsible for disappearances and people ending up lost.

Contrarily to what could be imagined, sailors, especially those spending most of their life in unexplored or isolated waters, often pray to Naufreck, and many multiple-masted ships even have small shrines dedicated to this goddess. The reason behind this apparently odd behaviour is that in some situations a calm sea with no wind or currents is a worse fate than a windy, stormy sea. In addition, praying to the goddess of sea monsters is considered a(n efficient?) way of ingratiating her, maybe even being spared.
