Miner's Respite

The miner’s respite is a tavern with rooms in the dust district of Sidewind.
Slightly off from the main road, the tavern is tucked away in a secondary road and is thus safe from the cutting winds that often sweep the town. It is easily visible from the main road, because it is a three-story building between one and two-story houses. The ground floor is as always made of stone, but the main entrance wall is instead made of wood. The doors are have rotating hinges, and they open like those of a saloon. Above the door, a tavern sign with a golden pickaxe can be seen.
The wooden floor is destroyed to the point of almost not being recognizable, with a million scraches caused by small stones and grains of sand dragged under the soles of people walking around.
Other than that, the inside is cozy: the main room is rectangular, with several simple tables with benches or chair. DC 12 to see that tables further from the entrance are better kept, have chairs instead of benches, and often have small woven tablecloths. The tables closest to entrance are often sticky with spilled alcohol or dented from brawls. A long dark wooden counter runs on the left side, with the door to the kitchen behind it. In the right corner opposite to the entrance there is a small platform with a comfy-looking chair, for bards and troubadours to perform on.
Left of the entrance and next to the counter there is a staircase that leads to the upper floor, where the few rooms of the inn are. A couple of small tables can be found up before the corridor of the rooms, where shady people can meet without anyone being able to see or hear them. Since very few of the people coming in are not from Sidewind, and there are almost no tourists nor travelling traders, the rooms are basically always free.
This being the only tavern in the city, a very different variety of people can be seen. In the tables furthest away from the entrance, better kept, artisans and merchants can be found. Closer to the entrance, mostly miners. Very many miners come here to drink, as they are most of the city’s lower social strata. Guards also come here for a drink, and use tables in between the other two “areas”.

Owners

The owners of the establishment are Greg and Tom, a gay couple. Greg is a lengthy western human in his 30s, with youthful look and often a little bit lost. He easily gets embarrassed and is kinda naïve. Tom is a fire genasi in his human 40s, always trying to please whoever he is talking to, but then stern, but fair, with Greg. Tom is the cook, Greg serves at the tables. As soon as anything out of the ordinary is asked to Greg, he has to go back and ask Tom (he basically never takes decisions on his own). Both are very easy to persuade with peer pressure. Both do not enjoy working there but will not admit it (sober). Greg and Tom agree that the tavern needs a new name, since it is not only appealing to miners, but they do not agree on the new name to give it. Greg wants “The Refuge”, Tom wants “Anyone’s respite”. Both Greg and Tom would like eventually to leave the town and open a tavern in another place, somewhere more lively and with better weather.

History

One of the very first buildings in Sidewind, the miner’s respite was initially supposed to be a tavern mainly for the poorer classes in town. However, no other tavern was founded, since Sidewind is not the most amazing place to leave in, and it not being on any trade route makes having an inn not lucrative enough.
