Temari

Appearance   Temari engineered themselves to live on a planet of freezing cold temperatures, blizzards, and icy ground. The low gravity on Temar means adults tend to be between 6 and 7 feet tall. Their skin is often a shade of blue or red, and their hair, garments and accessories are often brightly colored to help locate one another through blizzard conditions.   Physicality   Built for harsh lives in ice climates, Temari have upped their metabolism to extreme levels to be comfortable in their frigid climate. They have exceptional balance and are naturally athletic. Temari are excellent climbers, combining high core strength with retractable nano-cleats in their hands and feet. They find environments above freezing uncomfortably warm. Off-planet, they tend to dress in light, often provocative attire.   Culture   Temari live in a variety of settings on Temar. Terran Systems Bubble Colonies 1-4 are operated exclusively by Temari. Other Temari on the planet have built themselves enormous cities in the icescape. Others still reject both colony and city, and live in settlements or clans out in the frozen wastes of the planet. Even other Temari call these “Wild Temari” both for their naturalist knowledge and their perceived lack of social graces. Occasional conflicts flare up between the Temari and the BiLess, a militaristic faction of Terrans who operate Colony 5 .   Temari are unused to corporate oversight and most Terran social norms. Outside of Temar, Temari are seen as honest (harsh), productive (over-zealous), and proud (stubborn). They speak in exotic accents. Some Temari revel in being different, and enjoy the attention. Others go to extreme lengths to blend, and not to speak unless spoken to. As a relatively-isolated species, Temari are direct and literal, often to the point of being gullible, and as such become targets of scammers and grifters. Temari leaders issue cautionary materials to those going off-world explaining these facets of Terran society.   Systems & Corps   Many Temari are bitter towards Terrans in general and Terran Systems specifically, for abandoning Temar mid-terraform. Some, however, are proud of their heritage and see Systems as having been a necessary means to an end. As a culture preoccupied with survival, Temari tend to view the entire corporate system and related power struggles as irrelevant.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Temari skin and eyes are paler than a standard Terran, and they typically stand between 6 and 7 feet tall due to Temar's low gravity. The red dwarf star of Temar has been cited as the cause of Temari hair ranging from white, through various shades of pink, to dark red. Typical Temari eye colors include green, blue, orange, pink, and purple. Darker colors hair and eyes are rare. Though it is slight, Temari pupils have evolved into a more rectangular shape, possibly to combat excessive glare from Temarian ice drifts.

Ecology and Habitats

Most of the 20,000 Terrans sent as part of the original bubble colony on Temar chose to modify their own DNA to function in the cold, adapting to a comfort zone of between -30 and -10 degrees Celsius. They are immune to cold, though they can still freeze at absolute zero and cease breathing in the vacuum of space.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Due to their very low metabolism and low oxygen adaptation, Temari require less food, water, and oxygen than a standard Terran, and consume these resources half as quickly. They are used to a high nitrogen/methane atmosphere, so they may choose to carry these resources with them.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Temari are capable of sensing danger at vast distances across planetary surfaces.
