Skyfe

Appearance   Skyfes have adapted to a life among asteroid fields and low-G environments. Lighter and taller than most Terrans, with wings ranging from bat-like to angelic, most Skyfes have tall and slender faces to match. Skyfe fabrics tend to be flexible and durable to accommodate a variety of body shapes and heights.   Physicality   The term “Skyfe” can apply to any winged Terran. But technically there are two types of Skyfe. While all have wings, and most are splices, others have opted for cybernetic enhancements and mechanical thrusters instead. Those with the Skyfe splice are more naturally aerodynamic, their hollow bones allowing them to breezily soar through atmospheres with ease. Alternatively, cybernetic Skyfes can glide through outer space.   Culture   Skyfes were invented by bio-tech venture Sky4ge to solve a resource and transit shortage in the Altair system. But it was not until Freya that Skyfes found their true synergy. Freya was colonized by eccentric trillionaire Gjiinvi Rasp of Rasp Energy, and volunteer colonists, yielding an anti-establishment culture. To other Terrans, Freyans are seen as impulsive, idealistic and passionate, if sometimes irrational. Freya’s many asteroid belts, and dozens of low-gravity moons means that when the Skyfe splice arrived in the system, it was a huge success.   Soon spacediving through Freya’s rings became as common as running or swimming in other systems, and despite Sky4ge’s presence elsewhere, the words “Skyfe” and “Freyan” became virtually synonymous. Now, over fifty years later, many corps work in Freya outside of Rasp Energy, so while most Freyans are still free spirits, many long for the luxuries and conveniences the corps offer. On Altair, and elsewhere outside of Freya, Skyfes make good livings as pilots, couriers and traders.   Systems & Corps   Both Jump Points to Freya suddenly went dark in March of 2341, isolating the system (and most Skyfes) from the rest of civilization. Even one-way communication will take six years without functional Jump Points, so most Terrans hope that Freya is okay, and working on the issue on their end. Those off-system when the Jump Points went dark are now isolated from their careers and loved ones. Of course, many Skyfes do live and work elsewhere, Altair most prominently.
