Swinging Man

...
What? All the horrific spells I taught you about and this is what makes you speechless?
...
C'mon, considering all the Mages you have met is it really such a surprise that silly spells exist?
— Yensid & Helenia
The ways of Magic are only constrained by our imagination. is an often heard utterance when listening to a Mage talk about the art of Mana Manipulation. It is true of course. In the simplest of terms, one does not need to learn already existing spells but can simply create their own. To the surprise of absolutely no one, this has led to some of the silliest spells one could imagine.

Effects

A "victim" will themselves fell no different than before. None of their senses will feel off. Their organs won't melt away. Their feet won't freeze leaving them stuck in place. To others, however, the situation looks decidedly different.   The affected will simply swing around. Every move accompanied by wild swings of the arms or strange tilts of the head. Sometimes even the entire body will sway from one side to the other, which could prove very dangerous should said person find themselves near a cliff or steep set of stairs.   After a few hours, the spell will vanish, leaving the "victim" none the wiser of their ridiculous predicament. The spell has been officially classified as useless since it does not have any real applications. In battle, it could be used to distract an opponent but the time and Mana requirements are not worth it. Additionally, the technique is easily dispelled by a small build-up of Mana.

Requirements

  - !Attention! - This is a notice by the Council on internal developments within the Kugiren Temple. Due to a rising number of accidents involving the technique commonly known as "Swinging Man" the Council has decided to place a ban on the technique. Any use is forbidden. Any material talking about it will be confiscated. Additionally, all students will have to report to Councilor Magaren to receive a Ban Rune which will prevent any attempt at casting it.   - signed First Councilor Adreius Atteras

You may ask why a Temple would go to such lengths just to ban a joke spell. Well, some of the more "childish" students had taken a liking to it. At first, they only used it on some peasants or street rats. But pretty soon they targeted city and temple officials, guards, teachers...pretty much everyone. One day they even used it to embarrass King Orden of Lorenia. I have to admit it was quite the funny sight but King Orden nearly reinstated his countries ban on Mages after it. Suffice it to say no one was laughing when all was said and done.
