Hydrotheriums are large semiaquatic hydrens that live on the coasts of Grimoria. Hydrotheriums are unique for their aquatic lifestyle and ability to shoot blasts of scalding steam out of their mouths.

Description

Hydrotheriums are large scaly aquatic predators, adept at hunting fish. Their skin is thick and scaly, and they are blue with silver stripes and a silver underbelly. They have long tails and necks, and their 4 limbs are sprawled out at the sides of their bodies, making them sluggish on land but agile in the water. Their 4 limbs have fins on them and are tipped by scaly clawed flippers. Their long tails have fins extending out from the sides near the end so they can swim well, and they have a long fin running from the back of their heads all the way to the tips of their tails, and their backs are covered in hard armoured scales. Hydrotheriums have a long neck, and on the neck is a cobra-like flap that glows red when the hydrotherium is prepared to fire its steam blast. The head of hydrotheriums is long, and full of needle-like teeth.

Behavior

Hydrotheriums spend half of their time in the open ocean hunting fish, dolphins, squid, seals, and marine reptiles and also using its steam breath to blast birds out of the sky and eat them. The other half resting alone on the shores of Grimoria. While on the beaches, hydrotheriums mostly sleep, but still remain aware of threats nearby and are aggressive to anything that gets too close to them. When confronted with what it perceives as a threat, a hydrotherium will swallow water and superheat it in its special organ in its throat, and it will be prepared to shoot out this superheated water in the form of deadly steam. Hydrotheriums prefer to not have to use their energy-consuming steam blast, and will threaten their enemies by lighting up their cobra-like neck flaps, indicating that it's prepared to fire its steam. Hydrotheriums will also sometimes scavenge dead animals on beaches and will battle against anything else also eating the carcass.

Geographical Range

Hydrotheriums are found on almost every coast of Grimoria except for the Swamp of Ghosts as it is too unstable and muddy. Hydrotheriums have a special attribute related to how cold the region they inhabit is. In the north, hydrotheriums use their heat generating organs to warm up their bodies in the bitter cold, but since they are using their heat organ the warm themselves, they have less heat to spare for steam blasts, making them weaker. This opposite applies to hydrotheriums on hot regions, since they don't need to use their heat organ to warm up their bodies, they are able to use it to generate stronger steam blasts.
