hydren

Hydrens are vertebrates that resemble a mixture of mammals and reptiles. They are endothermic/mesothermic, and they tend to have scaly/leathery skin, long, bony tails, fur, heavy bones, and 4 limbs. Hydrens are mainly native to the continent of Grimoria, but can be found elsewhere as well.

Anatomy

Hydrens somewhat resemble dinosaurs and dragons. They have hard scaly skin and sometimes fur of varying thickness. They have long bony tails which often sport weapons such as clubs or spikes, and their tails are also usually used as counterbalances for their heavy heads. The skin of tonitruans often has hard bony plates on it, and they often also have hardened boney scales, as well as spines and spikes on their bodies.   Hydrens have 4 bony limbs like other vertebrates such as mammals or reptiles. The hind limbs of hydrens are muscular digitgrade/semi digitgrade legs, while their forelimbs can take a variety of forms. A large number of hydren species are capable of powered flight, so hydren forelimbs can sometimes be large dragon-like leathery wings. These winged forelimbs sometimes have claws, and, sometimes are even capable of being used as both legs, arms, and wings. The terrestrial Hydrens either have all 4 limbs on the ground, or they have their forelimbs shortened and hanging below their bodies, similarly to therapod dinosaurs.

Special Abilties

Hydrens are special because they are able to use abilities few other animals can use. Hydrens have special organs that let them produce lightning, breathe fire, create powerful winds, and many other powers. They are also able to withstand temperatures and environments no other creatures of their size can endure. Due to their often extreme powers that appear like magic, many cultures view some hydren species as legendary creatures.
