frost ape

The frost ape is a large, fully bipedal species that inhabits the Southern Continents.

range and population

Frost apes inhabit the inland regions of Voysov, Skall, and Glacius, and are the only large land animals to survive there. Frost apes are very scarce, and are an uncommon sight but have still been able to maintain a stable population.

Description

Frost apes have a similar body shape as a human, although they are bulkier and hunched over, and possess slightly longer arms. The entire body of frost apes is covered in long, matted locks of white fur, and the only parts not covered in fur are the face. The face of frost apes is very unsettling. They have a very long and wide nose and extremely piercing large round eyes.

Diet

Frost apes seem to require very little food to survive, and are able to live off of lichens alone. This extreme dietary adaptation had made it possible for them to survive on even the most barren of the Southern Continents such as Skall, Voysov, and Glacius.

Evolution and Background

Hundreds of years ago, Voysov, Skall, and Glacius were teeming with life similar to that in Drakka, another southern continent. This life began to mysteriously vanish however, and by the year 580, all large plants and almost all macroscopic land animals had gone extinct. However, Frost apes seem to have persisted through this unknown disaster and are likely the last remnant of this now extinct ecosystem. The exact reason for the frost ape's survival is unknown, as is the cause of the extinction of the other animals.
