Downkri Caulde

"The Salt-breaker split the ocean and raised up Managola" - Beginnings   In the year 732, the 7th Oracle King Topolo had a vision of deep-blue colored behemoths invading Managola Island upon his death. To protect his people, he tasked the temple with constructing a statue of Caulde to defend Downkri. A decade of research by the Sages and Priests of Downkri created a spell to cut and transport a red granite block from the ocean floor. The artist, Wotanoka, spent the next two decades carving the image of Caulde out of the block. Topolo had been ill for years and died upon the statue's consecration during the Festival of Hoakana in the year 768. The following dawn, a fleet of blue-sailed warships sailed past Roccocconi into the Bay Fayo. The Ballad of Wotanoka and Topolo tells of the Sinking of the Sapphire Armada in which the Statue of Caulde raised a powerful typhoon scattering the red granite chippings from its creation to wind sinking the Sapphire Armada of pan'Fuloure. Rarely, after powerful storms, weathered bits of this red granite wash ashore and are coveted by islanders often being turned into protective jewelry.   Oracle King Cho liberated Downkri from the Goblin King Fli-ix-Fee in 1280. The epic poem Man's Return describes Cho noon landing his fleet south of Downkri to retake the city. The sun was extinguished and the world was plunged into darkness. The Goblin King's Horde gained an seemingly insurmountable advantage in the daytime-night. The greenskins were driving Cho and his army back into the sea when a yellow blazed to life behind the horde. The Statue of Caulde came to life, eyes burning a brilliant yellow as it pummeled and pulverized the goblins with stone fists and feet. Cho won the day, slaying Fli-ix-Fee at the feet of the Statue. The downward cleave of his massive great axe scarred the stone dais and the crack bears the name "Cho's Cleft".   This statue is the tallest structure in Downkri and second only to Old Man Brandy's Windmill on Managola Island.
