Mycellor Forest Geographic Location in Paneus | World Anvil

Mycellor Forest

If one were to take a walk through The Ellios forest, one might be lucky enough to come across a most curious phenomenon. For in the forest lies a patch of mushrooms with a most peculiar quality, it is much larger on the inside. If one were to step into the patch they would find the very world around them changed, it is hard to tell whether one has shrank or the world has grown. The mushrooms now tower over you like tall trees and an entire world of creatures bustles inside. it is the creation of Fae Pixies who crossed over during the first planar alignment, they created this space to protect themselves from the hazards of Paneus.

Geography

Inside it resembles a large forest made of a variety of mushrooms in all shapes, sizes and colours. The earth is damp and rich and covered in patches of springy moss causing the landscape to undulate gently. The light filters down through gaps in the wide canopy overhead creating illuminated patches in the otherwise dim gloom. Within these patches of light grow small single stalked mushrooms which glow softly in various colours at night as they release the energy soaked up from the sunlight. There is a rich loamy smell to the air and it is always warm with a light balmy breeze. Although there is an abundance of life within the forest sounds seem oddly muffled which give the place a peaceful atmosphere.

Fauna & Flora

A whole host of creatures live within the forest not least of which is the Pixie, the original creators of Mycellor Forest. They still flourish here in small villages scattered about the forest acting as caretakers and protectors. Some of the Pixies that crossed over were bonded with Fae dragons and they too have flourished in their new home, building nests in the stalks of the tallest mushrooms. It is not uncommon to see Pixies on their dragon mounts flitting through the higher reaches of the forest.

Another creature that the Pixies brought with them was the Toadle, a slow but gentle fungoid creature which the Pixies used as beasts of burden. They are left to roam freely around the forest only being called upon when needed and the Pixies ensure they are cared for and protected.

Most of the remaining wildlife are creatures that have wandered in from the outside. Some stay and take up residence in sections of the forest while others simply wander back out again. Notable creatures that have stayed include ants and beetles which subsist on fungus, worms who stay for the rich soil, and a type of small bird which always winters in the forest. Some of the more frequent passers through include squirrels, small rodents and a yearly migration of landcrabs which the Pixies have turned into an annual festival called the March of the Landcrabs.

A sad resident

One other creature of note that must be mentioned is the sole truffle pig in the forest, he wandered in a few years ago while on the hunt for his favourite food, finding it aplenty in the forest he stuck around. He has become quite friendly with the Pixies and is often happy to share his truffle finds, unless he is particularly hungry. He has become a little morose as of late and the Pixies believe this might be caused by loneliness from being the only one.
