Buried Memories
General Summary
Right before sitting down for breakfast one normal day at the Flame of the Forest Inn , Dana noticed that there was a note pinned to the quest board with her name on it. Someone was calling her out and requesting to meet up down at the Xiomara waterfront. The note said that the things Dana remembered weren't exactly true. Being that Dana does not retain many memories before her time in Xiomara, this presented some confusion. Adding to the mystery, the note was unsigned.
Deciding to follow up, Dana put together a party of her closest friends - Covak, Prim, and Magnus. They agreed to go with her to the waterfront and stick with her through whatever may come of it.
Down at the waterfont a woman by the name of Alianor Redstream stepped out to greet Dana with a warm hug. She was met with great hesitation on the part of Dana who had no memory of this person that referred to her as Christiana. The moment immediately became full of tension as Alianor Redstream realized that Dana had lost all memories of her life in West Haven. Alianor introduced herself as an old family friend and convinced Dana to come back with her to her home.
Dana and her friends joined Alianor Redstream for several mugs of ale while Ali filled Dana in on some of the details of her past. Namely that Dana and her family had been living in West Haven for several years before the first war. Ali also told her about her father's death at the front lines, her mother's death from sickness, and Dana's love interest, Orin. The atmosphere of the room was one of uncomfortable uncertainty as Dana had to take time to process all of this new information. Apologizing for adding to the pressure, Alianor Redstream presented Dana with a letter Orin had left for her some time ago.
The letter explained that after Orin rescued Dana from the The Sovereignty he then began searching for her parents who had been turned into undead by the kingdom. He had also uncovered the truth that her mother had been murdered. The doctor, who was operating from somewhere in West Haven, had been lacing her mother's medications with drugs and had accidently caused an overdose, killing her. Orin charged Dana with finding the doctor and making him pay for his crimes. He promised they would be together again one day.
Alianor Redstream was not able to give any further information as to this doctor's whereabouts but did happen to point out that the bastard sword Dana carried was not her father's sword, which Dana had thought all along.
Bidding Ali ado for the moment, Dana promised to visit often. The party did some research in town as well as stocked up on supplies before heading to West Haven. Dana invested in a hat of disguise as Ali had also informed her that there was a bounty on her head throughout the The Sovereignty.
Arriving in West Haven the party decided to canvas the town and see what information they could get from the locals. After several hours, they learned there was an Elf who liked to hang out at the Death Dells Tavern who could set up an appointment with this doctor for a "treatment." The "treatment" apparently being illicit drugs. Appointment set, the party headed to the Black Ash Commons at midnight to meet this doctor. Unfortunately, they were met with a woman who referred to herself as a "nurse." Hesitating at first, the party decided that going along with things was the best way to eventually find the doctor. Prim volunteered her arm for the "treatment" and was quickly pumped full of hit point boosting, severely addicting drugs. The party barely noticed the significant wisdom damage that she took.
Once the "treatment" was complete the woman quickly disappeared through a secret door in the statue at the center of the park. Giving it a bit of time, the party followed through the door and down into the sewer system of West Haven.
The stench of West Haven is already incredibly unpleasant, but in the sewers, the smell is almost unbearable. Facing off against two guards and convincing them to surrender, the party found their way through the sewer tunnels to a section of rooms occupied by the doctor and his flunkies.
Sneaking in, they barricaded a door, locking the crimimals inside. Making their way around to a back room, they discovered a terrifying sight. A gnome, wearing a leather apron covered in blood, was in the process of chopping up a corpse and disposing of its parts in a large pit in the floor. Not being able to withhold her rage any longer, Dana demanded to know this doctor's name and what exactly he'd been doing to people. Through a long fight and a tough interrogation, the doctor revealed that it was not he but his father who was culpable in Dana's mother's death. The doctor and any thugs in the room were knocked unconscious and stowed in a nearby storage closet while the party went back to deal with the criminals they had barricaded. The fighting was short. Covak utterly destroyed a poor bard who's only perceived crime was playing music. Another thug was knocked unconscious, and the witch, who was the "nurse" from before, quickly surrendered. The party agonized over what to do with them all. They did not want this operation starting up again but did not trust the The Sovereignty authorities to make the right decision in the matter. Eventually, it was decided to leave them all down in the sewers with the exception that the doctor would be executed. When Covak went to perform the deed he discovered that Dana had already killed him in secret.
A discovery was made down in the sewers: Dana's memories were sparked when she caught sight of a particular bastard sword hanging on a wall in one of the rooms. She knew instantly that this was her father's sword and it belonged to her. Taking the sword from the wall she was immediately overcome with grief as she recalled flashes of memories of both her mother and her father. The sword possessed magical properties that Dana is intent on unlocking.
