The Great Corruption

The Great Corruptions

Campaign Setup

The year is 1162 AD, the second age of our world. It’s 10 years since Elision was named High Empress in the golden palace of the Pallisiat Empire after the 4th Peoples Rebellions. It’s a time of peace and prosperity, as we enter the Late Empirical era. The time of large-scale wars, conquests, and invasions is over; the rulers of Zenith, and Nadir are expanding through trade and political allegiances, slowly embedding their dynasties, borders, and cultural traditions after centuries of conflict and ambition. The High Empress is raising her banners high above the walls of Elysium. Alongside her Sunmaidens and Clergy, they are ushering the surrounding world into a new dawn of tradition. Elision has already solidified a large part of her growing legend, becoming a saint, believed to carry the blood of Eos the daughter of Helios.
In the great Riverlands to the south of the Heartstone mountain range on Zenith, lies two smaller kingdoms: The Kingdom of Dynaweld, and the Kingdom of Torinthia. They border the larger twilight nation of Astropol to the east and the dwarven strongholds of Krezlim to the northwest. Southward lies the Lion’s reaches, a badlands inhabited mostly by nomadic orcish tribes. And directly westward you will find the Nelavir Expanse, home to the woodland dwellers in service to Gaia.
King Francis of Dynaweld and King Boggárd of Torinthia have been friends and allies for 11 strong years. This all changed on a dime when gold was discovered along their border in the small barony of Tottich, a smaller vassal of King Francis and thereby belonging to the kingdom of Dynaweld. Francis was overjoyed, but it slowly strained his friendship with Boggárd who became lathed in jaloxy.
Suddenly the following year, as the mines began operating, a terrible disease swept the region, and the entire nobility and barony fell apart. The Baron, his wife, and their two kids died. And the entire mining operation became abandoned. Feudal law dictated that the land now belonged to King Francis unless another rightful claimant to the barony showed up. As it just so happened, a distant cousin of the baron of Tottich did exist, and he was just named count of some small useless region in Torinthia. Now he was the rightful liege of Tottich, and because he was a count under the vassalage of King Boggárd, the barony - and the mines - would fall under Torinthien territory. This did not sit right with Francis, who became furious, having been betrayed by his old ally. He did not for a minute accept this ‘’distant cousin’’ to be of any lineage of the old baron, claiming the land still belonged to him. He sends out his elite guard unit, the Ash Knights led by the famous Black Phonix to guard the mines and barony. And so conflict began. The Ash Knights remained undefeated for a year, as Boggárd sent in his knights to claim the mines, left behind only as blood and broken bodies.
Now real war is thundering, as a distant echo on a clouded sky. It is approaching, King Boggárd is gathering his bannermen, and King Francis is waiting…

The Surrounding World

The World of Pandemonium takes place on the planet of Pangea, also called Terra, or simply Earth. It’s divided into Six main large continents:
Zenith, or Zenithra (Central ‘’Western’’ World)
Nadir (Southeastern, ‘’Middle eastern’’)
Sheol (Far West. Primarily Uncolonized due to an inhospitable environment.)
The Far East (Further east than Nadir, ‘’Asian’’ Draconic regions.)
North Arctic
South Arctic
This Campaign takes place within a small territorial dispute, within a smaller region of Zenith. (Map in progress).

Astropol

The largest of the nearby kingdoms, home to a wide variety of people and races. Despite having a proud royal bloodline that stems back to Atheon’s eldest daughter Elisia (Player Note: Not to be confused with Elision), Astropol is mainly governed by high-ranking members of the free states associations, alongside the Silver Collective of the Twilight Covenant.
They are allied with Pallisiat under the Golden Concords, alongside their brother and sister nations of Lipara and Chrysandonia. All heralds of the Twilight and liberty.
Their great capital of Yasol fell during the last march of the Giants 200 years ago, which besieged the city resulting in a war that tore down the very earth and ground beneath the spirering towers and endless archways. Their new capital resides along the border to Nadir further eastward and is named Venizliv.

The Dwarfs of Krezlim

Build into the mighty Heartstone mountains to the north, large strongholds, and cities expand inward and downward, all the way to the belly of the Underdark. The Mountain Dwarf Clans of Krezlim worship the oldest traditions of the dwarfs, as heralds of Ydranor. The Father of Stone and Mountains. They were once a part of the Pallisiat Empire but gained independence when Elision ascended to the throne. Isolationism has become a larger part of their culture, with their enormous iron and stone gates shut for almost everybody.
It’s home to the two Iron Kings, Beldor and Ulvor, who govern as one.

The Nelavir Expanse

To the west lies a large expanse of untouched fields, rivers, and large woodlands, edged against smaller mountains to the south. Politically it has remained unclaimed for hundreds of years but is under the protection of the roaming Wooddwellers. Wood Elves, Beastial Clans, and Forest Nymphs keep settlers, raiders, and bandits at bay by mostly violent means.
The Nelavir Woodlands are home to many lost elven ruins, from the first fey migration about 1000 years prior. Now it’s sacred territory to those who still delve within the Twilight.

Lion’s Reach

Once a proud part of Torinthia, with castles and cities reaching the cusp of the Jazamin Inlay. The Lion’s Reach was invaded by a horde of orcs, some 50 years ago, who claimed the region for themselves. The central town of Cylom was an ancient burial ground for an old orcish chieftain, by the name of Lonespear.
Now the reach is a badland of destroyed townships and crumbling castles, from where the Orc clans hunt and roam under the surveillance and pact of Gaia, the Natures Kiss.

Session 1 Introductions

War is brewing… We find ourselves in a small halfling village in the southwest corner of the Kingdom of Dynaweld. It resides along the border to Torinthia, with the Nelavir Expance to the west. A tranquil place of little note. Levies are being gathered on both sides of the border, and the armies are growing by the day, but the Halfings of Clausdale care little of the tides of war. It’s springtime, and the crops are just being planted, ready for harvest season. The womenfolk are blossoming in the breeze, and the men are gathering and hunting. Clausdale lies just 10 km past the western highway, that ties the major trade notes of the western borders of the kingdoms together. It’s beautiful in the spring and summertime. A popular place to rest for weary travelers.
There is a smaller less traveled road that leads into the Nelavir Expanse through the Wesling Forest, and there is an equally obscure road that goes south and across the border into Torinthia for those who wish to circumvent the larger roads.
Here in the springtime embrace of Clausdale, 5 travelers of various roads and purposes meet in the homely tavern of the Beersong Restpit, known for its honing-sweet meads and dark ales. Another round before the winds sweeps them towards the horizon yet again…
