Nightmare
Rare elemental horses. They are incredibly powerful and intelligent. They typically live 200 - 300 years and are born randomly from otherwise normal horses. There is a roughly 1 in 10,000,000,000 chance that a horse will give birth to a nightmare.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Quadrupedal and hooved, like regular horses, but their bodies are far more muscular. Their bodies are natural stores of magic and tend to charge the area around them. Their mane and tale are fibrous, but can only be seen in this tangible state when they are nearly completely drained of magic. Usually their mane and tail are bright and glowing, brimming with the element they are tied to.
Genetics and Reproduction
Nightmares are a 1 in 10,000,000,000 mutation in mundane horses of any breed. The only difference is that birthing a nightmare has a significantly higher maternal mortality rate. Since nightmares are asexual, they cannot give birth.
Growth Rate & Stages
12 months: 50% - 60% mature weight, 50% - 65% height
24 months: 80% - 90% mature weight, 95% height
36 months: 100% mature weight and height
Past this point, they do not show signs of aging. The last few months of life, the mane and tail can be seen flickering and their eyes will tend to dull.

Additional Information
Domestication
Domestication of nightmares is practically impossible, but they can be befriended.
Average Intelligence
Their intelligence is almost full sentience and comprable to humanoids. They learn languages around them fairly quickly and have a basic ability to understand abstract ideas. They are capable of remembering faces and names, but relationships tend to be simplified to what they think of the individual and, at most, how someone close to them views them. Title and rank mean nothing to them.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Their magical affinities grant them extrasensory abilities. Their sight and hearing are that of mundane horses, but through magic they can extend those abilities to see and hear farther, or even see other planes or invisible creatures. They are also able to sense disturbances in magic. Those disturbances can be as subtle as walking through dense magic, and they can generally tell the intensity of the spell being cast based on the amount of magic being used.
