Dracolism Organization in Pallo | World Anvil

Dracolism

Before humanoids, before Fraelings, before the world was linked to the rest, dragons ruled. Mokusdin, the Eternal One, let out a terrific and awesome breath, from which Pallo was formed. All elements spewed forth from his maw. With his powerful magic and mysticism he took that wild magic and introduced chaos. His breath created the stars, the sun, the moons, the other planets, and even the other Pallan Dragon Gods. Unexpectedly, after millennia of living by themselves, new life sprung beneath them. With this, the Dragon Gods ascended. Their ascension gifted the world with mighty forces, and also attracted the other realms. In time, gateways to other worlds opened all across Pallo, and the Dragon Gods found new colleagues among countless pantheons, celestial and demonic.

Non-Ascended Beings

Draconi

  • As the religion is not centralized, this is the highest "ranking" religious person in a community of Dracolians. They are looked to for inspiration and guidance, but not sought out as societal leaders. They also lead the death ceremonies when a Dracolian dies.

Dracova

  • They serve as managers of the hoard of the locale they serve. They perform inventory periodically and are ultimately responsible for its safety.

Dracolytes

  • These are holy servants charged with the hard work assigned to them by Dracova. They physically protect the hoard, travel out to collect for the hoard, and more. While their job is not to proselytize, it is suggested that they be shining examples of Dracolian beliefs and spread the will of the Dragon Gods.

Dracokin

  • The title given to all followers/believers of Dracolian. It is a blanket term that can be applied to those of higher rank as well.

Culture

Since it is a polytheistic religion, there is no true devotion to just one of the gods. The tribes are named after heros of each, though that does not mean that the tribe is devoted moreso to that god above the others. Periodically, hordes have been formed for a single god. They are typically cults or small orders devoted and do not last more than a few years. Their formation is usually due to a specific calling or purpose, like recovery from - or prevention of - disaster. With one exception, they have not ended as typical cults do - they just disband after the effort is accomplished.

Assets

Dracolian temples pay tribute to their Dragon God(s) by amassing a hoard that honors them. The hoards are used to supply the practitioners however they can. Gold from the horde is used to fund projects, materials used to create, etc. But, the horde should never be empty. The more Dragon Gods a horde is for, the more imperative it is to keep it from emptying. The wrath of one Dragon God or Dragon Demi-God is terrifying. Two or more?...

Some temples have become more static buildings since the Espirian Colonization, but most tribes still maintain their migratory lifestyle. Many of the tribes have begun settling down permanent villages, centered around a temple, where some of the members starting the newer non-migratory Dracolian lifestyle. All of the tribes have established a temple where some of their hoard is kept. Much of the hoard is still used for migratory Dracolians continuing to use their unique system of construction. History

Mokusdin's ascension was first. His body became incorporeal, and he became immense. His existence became a new plane, the ideal home for the souls of all who live in the worlds he created. Those who are not deemed worthy are reborn.
The other Dragon Gods ascended into Mokusdin, but are capable of interplanar travel. For all Dragon Gods, Mokusdin included, their horde is their hoard, made up only of their followers. As with other deities, they also grow stronger the more followers they have. While they covet growing their horde, as all dragons do, their ascension, and the fickle nature of mortal beings, means they are unable to directly influence the size of their horde. Another large factor in that is that since their ascension, other deities have been interested in taking their power.
