Boagyn (/'Bəʊɑːzhɪn/)

The endless voids of time and space often lead humanoids to madness. What they think is madness. They do not know true, abject, elemental madness.

Summary

Boagyn, the Insane, is the Dracolian God of chance and change. She is in charge of changing weather, primarily. What may seem chaotic and ineffable is actually the meticulous work of Boagyn nudging the natural flow of forces. Periodically, she peers into the minds of mortals to affect decisions they make.   She is also the God of madness. There have been few who have observed this power: none of them did so without breaking. Clerics of Boagyn tend to be more like druids. They are able to deal with undead and heal people, but they tend to predict weather patterns. At higher levels, they can affect weather changes or even create weather patterns.   Paladins of Boagyn have a difficult struggle harnessing her power. The divinity paladins of Boagyn channel seem to frequently dip into madness. Wayward or oath breaker paladins of Boagyn are typically crippled with madness and become unruly and chaotic.

Historical Basis

Boagyn has not visited Pallo since the dawn of sentient life on the planet. It is said that the first of her clerics survived her presence in a land lost between planes called Arkham. It is said that people who get lost beyond saving may find themselves stumbling into Arkham without understanding how they got there or how to return. Unfortunately, another way to find yourself in Arkham is to lose grip on reality. This can be through insanity, severe emotions, or certain magics gone awry. Arkham itself feeds it's inhabitants with madness, twisting their minds.    It is said that it is the only way for mortals to see the Great Old Ones. While it is a very distant, and rare, sighting, it is still too much for mortals to handle. All of these conditions make Arkham practically inescapable. How her first cleric returned is widely debated.   Unlike other gods, she maintains power through the madness of mortals. Arkham is a considerable source of power to her, though even the light insanity amongst the peoples of all of the planes feeds her. That is her horde.

Cultural Reception

Boagyn is not looked at as wholly good or evil. Most of the prayers offered to her are in the hopes of favorable outcomes of upcoming events. Sometimes she is prayed to for certain weather patterns. When she is denounced by believers, it is sometimes in reference to some madness (perceived or real). Most of the time it is because someone has had a change of heart, or a deal was change. She almost never has anything to do with these events, though it is more comforting to some to blame a morally grey God than it is to accept malintent in acquaintances.

In Art

Her physical form is never depicted. She is depicted as a shadow of the object of the art. A famous example is that of King Hadon of Amana. The king is depicted standing triumphantly, one foot on a rock, with the sun shining down on him. His shadow on the ground is not like his form. It is oddly misshapen and the head is subtly dragon shaped.
