Mogogols

A race of adaptable frog-like people, often welcomed by all races of Pallet.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mogogols can be described as oversized frogs that wear clothes. They stand smaller than humans, between 4’0”-5’3”, weighing between 125-175 lbs. Unlike boggards, who possess warty, uneven hide, most Mogogols have smooth skin, other than rockland variety. They could be many different colors, often accented with stripes or spots, though these colors are only visual appearances, and have no bearing on their abilities. They have four fingers and three toes, some subspecies having them webbed. With the exception of Rockland Mogogols, their skin constantly produces a slimy substance that keeps their body moist. As such, many wear gloves to prevent themselves from exuding over others possessions. Similar to that of the beast they resemble, most Mogogols have long tongues they can lash out with, though only a few have fine enough ability with it to use it for fine manipulations. In addition, they can also croak loudly, with some even being able to replicate the manipulating Croaks of the Boggards.

Arboreal

Arboreal Mogogols have bulkier frames than most others. Often muscular and taller than their other Mogogols, and normally some shade of green, though exceptions always exist.

Jungle

Average height for Mogogol, they are often identifiable by their bright colors, indicating the poisonous slime that exudes from them. They often are heavily clothed when in public to prevent this poison from getting on anything.

Marine

Marine Mogogol’s are often slimmer than the rest of their kind. They are normally some shade of blue, and appear to have gills positioned on their necks. They also have webbed fingers and toes. Most identifiable Mogogol species.

Rockland

Unlike most other Mogogols, they are short and stout, having darker, neutral shades of colors to their hide. Rather than exuding a persistent slime over their body, they instead have warts speckled over their body that when burst, produces a sickening substance.

Swamp

The most commonly encountered Mogogol, those of the swamp variety can have visual appearances from all types of Mogogol, though not their respective family’s traits. This adaptability translates to their tongue being more adaptable, as well as stronger leg muscles.

Ecology and Habitats

Similar to Rougarous, Mogogols originally hail from the southern swamps of Pallet, and expanded outwards alongside them. Since then, they have evolved and adapted to live and thrive in different environments.

Behaviour

Most Mogogols obtain an obsession towards the beginning of their life. The conditions of how this obsession is formed is a mystery, even to Mogogol sages. It can manifest in a variety of ways, like the collection of something unusual, the pursuit of a certain career, a lifelong goal, or in some rare occasions, a person, either pledging an unwavering loyalty or romantic interests. Once a Mogogol obtains such an obsession, it becomes a lifelong goal, existing for the rest of their lives. Each Mogogol often only has one such obsession, but some have been known to have upto five at a time. These particular Mogogols however are often shunned by the rest of their kind, as a Mogogol with too many of these obsessions often become dangerous, compelled to fulfill them at all costs.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Confusingly, all Mogogols are named Mogogol, often using what they call Epitabs to identify each other. Epitabs are titles given at the end of names, though without holding any honor. Examples include “Mogogol with green spots”, “Mogogol who cheated on his wife”, “Mogogol holding the Wine Glass.” Those Mogogol who do accomplish something of note often have a Prefix added to the beginning of their name, ignoring the Epitab. Father or Mother is always given to those who have children, becoming “Father Mogogol” or “Mother Mogogol”, possibly becoming “Grandmother” or “Grandfather” Mogogol with they live to see their Children’s Children. Mogogol can also receive Prefixes from other races too, such as becoming “Captain Mogogol” when obtaining a ship, “Sir Mogogol” if they are knighted, or “Barkeep Mogogol” if they own a tavern.

Gender Ideals

Mogogols are gender fluid, as in they are capable of changing genders should the need arise in a clan. As such, gender has little meaning within their society, often referring to each other simply by one's Epitap.

Average Technological Level

While the rest of Southern Pallet is in its infancy of technology, Mogogols are much further in development than the rest. Some Mogogols obsessions revolved around such technology, and their drive led to many early developments. One notable development that came from the Mogogols is the Steam Engine, first invented by Inventor Mogogol. This Steam Engine was later inserted into a boat to create the first Steam Boat, crafted by Shipwright Mogogol, and Captained by Captain Mogogol. These Steamboats are now widely used by Mogogols for transportation, allowing them to command the Transportation of Goods across Pallet as a whole.
