Phileus Danforth

Despite his wild and unsettling appearance, Phileus Danforth is a Company-Sponsored Wizard. The author of Phileus Danforth's Book of Harms, Danforth is constantly seeking ever more damaging spells, including through blood sacrifice-style self-mutilation. Although his activities and obsessions are unpleasant and dangerous, none of them are actually illegal. The laws surrounding the control of knowledge and magic are more restrictive of the kinds of magic (summoning, divination and planar travel) that the Honourable Company holds a monopoly over, while Danforth's area of study is mostly Evocation which, while potentially deadly, is not such a threat to Company profits.

Personal history

Woundsday, Soldiermoon, 1313
Phileus Danforth participated in the 1313 Blademas Tournament. He came first place in the Elemental Slaying contest with his powerful area-of-effect spells. He brought down a large Ice Elemental with a maximised Fireball in the first round and casts a maximised Lightning Bolt that takes out a line of fire and water elementals. Although he has to spend the last few minutes mostly running away, his powerful opening gambits led him to victory defeating 32 elementals in total.   He was less fortunate in the final anything-goes melee, coming in fifth place. Although he was hoping to claim the Efreeti Bottle for his prize, he instead went home with a case of Henbane Beer.
