After his older brother, Chevalier Michael Briar, and the Brer of the Briar, Battenburg Briar perished in the Apocalypse of the Final Shot, then-Sir Raphael Briar was promoted to Brer, skipping any Chevalric training entirely, at fifty-eight years old.
As a result of his limited training, Raphael was woefully unprepared for the role, mostly anxiously followed the lead of Brer Babylon Berryld of the Berry, who ascended to Brership at the same time, but had been prepared for the role his whole life. With the Brer of the Rose, Hyle Rosa, being a four-year-old child, Raphael seconded Babylon's decision to blame the Apocalypse on the Bramble Oracle, Elma Hopper, and replace her leadership position with a new, non-Oracular Matriarch Petronella Carrottops.
