Fairyfolk Species in Pakkiila | World Anvil

Fairyfolk

Fairyfolk are the close relatives of Fey, said to have begun as the result of a fey and human's forbidden love. Fairyfolk typically very energetic and competitive, but friendly. Fairyfolk are rather rare in relation to other species on Pakkiila, typically keeping close together in big circles with a strong sense of community.   Fairyfolk have energy to spare, and may unintentionally come off as annoying due to this. They store more energy, for fighting, flying, and anything else, and that can come off as being constantly energetic! It's never intentional of course.   Fairyfolk are very sensitive to elemental differences, and have 6 subspecies: Wind, Fire, Water, Earth, Light, and Shadow. Each subspecies are typically able to wield their element, but some choose not to or are simply unable due to a deficiency in their magic.   Fairyfolk, while usually closed off, aren't opposed to meeting new people. As long as they don't act like they're a burden, they can get along fine with anyone just fine.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fairyfolk typically have 2 arms, 2 legs, and 4 wings that are composed of elemental magic, though as with any species they may lose these limbs or be born with more or less than the standard. Fairyfolk are mainly similar to humans, but have elven ears.

Genetics and Reproduction

Fairyfolk reproduce magically, at which point the children are born instantly. However, they can, as a last resort, produce offspring physically, and carry the resulting offspring for 8 months. They typically bare 1 to 2, but can produce up to 8 children.

Growth Rate & Stages

Fairyfolk are born as tiny little things, practically overflowing with their elemental magic but unable to truly fly as they are bundled up until the age of 7 Spins.   Once they reach the age of 5 Spins they begin to regulate how much magic they have, but cannot yet wield it. It is once they turn 7 that they are able to wield magic, and are able to begin to learn to fly, as their wings have unfurled from their buds.   Fairyfolk finish maturing at 20 Spins, as at this point they can have children and their magical capabilities are fully developed. Though this varies depending on the individual and any disorders or mutations they may have. However, they are considered pre-adults until they reach 24 Spins.

Ecology and Habitats

Fairyfolk fair best in a place with high elemental energies, especially rather forested and hidden areas. Of course certain subraces can survive well in their assorted terrains/areas, the main and unifying habitat is what is listed above.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fairyfolk are able to eat just about anything, and are built as omnivores. They tend to eat fruits or race-made goods though.
