Salvations Bastion

Purpose / Function

Salvations Bastion was built to be Azari's stronghold in his war against Dragons, and has since become a home for the Cult of Salvation where new members are trained in Dragon killing methods.

Design

The design of the Bastion is built to be defendable from both the ground and the sky. Sat at the end of a 10 mile long crevasse with high cliff walls on either side the tops of the cliffs have been etched with explosive runes detonating when any creature with Draconic blood touches the runes. The fortress itself has 4 layers of walls spanning further and further through the crevasse, the longest and largest wall is the Stone Wall.

The Stone Wall sits at the start of the crevasse, spanning 3 miles long, with 6 towers built into the wall, one every half mile. It is called the stone wall because of its construction, being the longest and first wall, it is made from heavy stone and bricks. Behind the Stone Wall sits the agricultural fields and pastures the Cult tend to and get their food from, overseen by Radiant River, the Cult's commander of farms and agriculture.

The Iron Wall sits 4 miles behind the Stone Wall, spanning 2 miles long as the crevasse gets thinner. The Iron Wall has 4 towers built into it, again one every half mile, being constructed from wrought iron, etched with anti Dragon runes to shield the Cult from detection from above. Behind the Iron Wall sits the Cults scientific and arcane research, overseen by the White (Trixia) and formerly the Silver (Ill'iar). Only minor research is now down inside the Bastion, and instead is run by Lieutenants under Trixia, and before her death, Ill'iar, with the major research being done in their own strongholds and keeps elsewhere in Rularia. The Silvers was in the Exterior Wilds before her death and its destruction.

The Adamantine Wall sits 3 miles behind the Iron Wall, spanning one mile long as the crevasse nears its thinnest point, with 3 towers built into the wall, one every third of a mile. The Adamantine Wall is constructed from dense arcane engraved stone bricks, carved with warding spells and protection against divination, and large sheets and reinforcements of Adamantine. The Adamantine sheets are the toughest metal found naturally on Oxdara. Behind the Adamantine Wall sits the barracks and training yards where the new recruits for the Cult are brought in through teleportation sigils, and are taught ways to fight against Dragons.

Two miles behind the Adamantine wall sits the final wall, the Bone Wall, constructed from Dragon bones, scales and horns, the perfect defence against Dragons. Behind the Bone Wall sits the crowning jewel of the Cult, the Bastion itself. The fortress was once a fortress built by the Orcs of Eterna, after they left for the Shadowfell, the fortress sat abandoned until Azari found it. He rebuilt the Bastion into the perfect fortress, heavily defended, impossible to enter without permission and shielded from prying eyes.

The Bastion itself is a large fortress, the very back pressed against the cliff, connecting into a large network of tunnels and caves descending deep into the earth. The exterior of the Bastion has 6 towers, ascending in height the closer to the cliffs they get, connected via bridges together and into the cliff walls. Each tower is connected at the base via thick stone walls, each brick engraved with runes. Within the walls are 5 large buildings, two at the front connected to the walls, on the left and right side of the crevasse sit two larger buildings, backing into the cliffside with extensions and rooms jutting out from the cliffside above them, and the largest at the back of the crevasse, the one that connects into the tunnels and cave networks. The centre of the fortress has a courtyard area with a large oak tree growing upwards, twisted and gnarled, the bark cracked with magic ebbing from the tree's trunk.

The caves connected to the Bastion start as carved mineshafts and natural caves at the closest point to the Bastion, but as you descend further into them the carving cleans up, the walls and floors become covered in Tal channels and the caves open up into a large, ancient Tal fortress. The fortress once owned by the Tal scientist, Olloram. Before her death the Silver had worked to awaken and utilities as much Tal magic and technology from the fortress as possible.

History

After the freezing of Ithual, a young Azari set out to find a way to grow stronger, build an army and fight back against those who he saw as dangerous, uncontrolled beasts, the Dragons. Venturing from his home in Dragontide up into the wastelands of what was once Thaltical, he set about looking for somewhere abandoned, forgotten, but somewhere he could rebuild. After Eltern, Omen and the other Lords used Omen's stored energy to safely detonate him away from people, and burn out the corruption left by Inday when he was released, Thaltical began to regrow, and with it Azari's new home was reborn.

He worked odd jobs, and became an expert thief, stealing what he could from nobles, but found most success working with the few groups that were still willing to delve into and kill Dragons, taking their hordes for their own. Eventually Azari rebuilt the stronghold with his stolen wealth, dubbing the newly restored stronghold as Salvations Bastion, his own protected fortress where he could begin his mission, his war on Dragons.
