Battle of October Hollow

October Hollow is not a location that exists on a map, as it is temporally located and only appears at some points during the year. Not even every year at that. But always in October, and always somewhere in the Forest of Pain.
One particular year, there was a group of magic users of various rank who decided to use the hollow as a site for their spell. Of course, what they didn't mention to those around them was that the spell would require a significant amount of life force, and thus would likely kill every living thing within a mile radius.
Except the mages themselves, of course, because they do tend to be greedy like that.
Somehow, the Blading Bondsfolk discovered this fact before the spell was enacted, and they attacked. It was a bloody battle, because the mages had hired several mercenaries, both to fuel the spell and to get them to the right spot in the forest. Naturally, they lied about what was going on, and the mercenaries went to their deaths believing themselves in the right.
As is obvious since the forest still stands, the Bondsfolk emerged victorious, and the mages became material for the headhunters.
